Job Summary/Basic Function
Assist the Chief of Police in supervising, directing and coordinating the work of the Millersville University Police Department. The Deputy Chief shall exercise independent thought as well as work under the general direction of the Chief of Police. The Deputy Chief serves as Acting Chief of Police in the absence of the Police Chief.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 - $95,500.00, plus comprehensive benefits starting on the first day of employment, including:

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Certification or ability to be certified as a police officer through the Department of Education (Act 120 certified in the State of Pennsylvania).
- NIMS 100, 200 training or ability to obtain appropriate level of NIMS training within first six months of employment.
- Five years experience as a police supervisor.
- Knowledge of PA Crimes Code and Vehicle Code, Clery Act and Act 73 of Pennsylvania.
- Demonstrated ability to:
- communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- work in a diverse work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to use the tools of the police profession to include:
- Firearms.
- Non-lethal, and less lethal forms of defense.
- Emergency vehicles.
- Video surveillance equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other job-related software.
- Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Valid driver's license.
- Successful interview.
- Successful completion of three background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Act 120 Certification.
- Two years of experience supervising first line supervisors.
- Experience with college/university policing or public safety including municipal experience in a jurisdiction with a college or university.
- Experience investigating intimate partner crimes.
- Experience in union environment.
- NIMS 300 & 400 level training.
- Command School training at FBI, Northwest, POLEX or equivalent.
Job Description
Essential Functions
- No or very limited physical effort required.
- No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- Ability to sit for long lengths of time.
- Must be able to lift/pull/push up to 10 pounds.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
- This position is designated an essential employee position. Employee is expected to report to work during their designated shift during emergency situations, university closures or delays.
