    Forensic Science

St. Edward's University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), invites applications for a full-time, 9-month faculty position in forensic science, beginning August 2025. Rank and tenure eligibility will be determined based on candidate qualifications. Initial appointment will be at the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track) or assistant teaching professor (specialized faculty). At St. Edward's University, specialized faculty are not tenure eligible but receive renewable contracts and have opportunities for promotion-in this case, to associate/full teaching professor. St. Edward's is characterized by its commitment to the Holy Cross educational mission to educate the hearts and minds of a diverse student body that is deeply committed to social justice.

The successful candidate will develop and teach courses at the undergraduate level, maintain a program of scholarly activity that is conducive to mentoring student research, support student success and career development, work with other faculty members to enrich the program when ideas and opportunities arise, and engage in professional service within and beyond the university. Courses assigned will depend on the needs of the program and the background of the candidate.

St. Edward's University embraces excellence through diversity and especially encourages applications from women and members of underrepresented racial, ethnic, sexual, and gender minority groups. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to supporting a diverse student body.

For consideration, candidates must have a Master's degree from an accredited institution in forensic science or a related field. A Ph.D. is preferred and will be required to attain tenure. In addition, candidates must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching at the collegiate level, including an ability or potential to teach a range of undergraduate courses and support a diverse student body. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an educational philosophy consistent with the mission and vision of a liberal arts university. Additional preferred qualifications include experience working in a crime laboratory or as a crime scene investigator, professional connections within the Texas forensic science and law enforcement communities (in particular, connections that would support student internships, professional development, and job placement), and previous experience with forensic science curriculum development.

    Essential Responsibilities Include:
    • Teaching courses within the forensic science discipline and related natural science fields, depending on candidate qualifications and staffing needs. Tenure-track faculty teach four 3-credit courses per semester, and new tenure-track faculty receive one automatic course reassignment each year for research, scholarship, and/or creative work (RSCW). Specialized faculty teach five 3-credit courses each semester, with possible course reassignments for service.
    • Serving as an academic advisor for undergraduate students
    • Assisting with laboratory management
    • Maintaining a program of scholarly activity that is conducive to mentoring student research
    • Supervising student internships and research experiences
    • Supporting the ongoing success and continued development of the forensic science undergraduate degree program
    • Engaging in professional service within and beyond the university
    • Keeping abreast of updates in the fields of forensics, particularly in the applicant's area of specialization
    • Other duties as assigned
