Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Counselor - Grant-Funded
Salary: $50,284 depending on experience and qualifications
This is a grant-funded position. Grant-funded positions expire either at the end of the stated term or whenever funding for the position ceases.

The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a full-time Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Counselor in our Opportunity Programs department. The EOP Counselor promotes a culture of student success to provide a holistic system of support, and collaborates with the college departments and schools. They will actively engage EOP students and develop a community.
Key responsibilities for this position include:
- Provides group and individualized academic advising, programmatic and educational support with emphasis on motivation, study strategies, and peer study groups;
- Supports students in completing the financial aid application and provides assistance with course selection;
- Monitors course schedules and respond to early warning alerts through College approved software;
- Maintains office hours and regular EOP student contact in support of student academic success and retention;
- Teaches a credit bearing first-year experience (FYE)/college foundations course for new EOP students and facilitate a student success workshop series for students on academic probation;
- Participates in professional development opportunities and trainings to remain abreast higher education trends and students success models that aid in the academic progress of first-generation college students;
- Maintains student files and monitors progression towards meeting graduation requirements;
- Provides feedback, recommendations and ideas to strengthen EOP academic support models and services;
- Performs other duties related to the job description as assigned by the Director of EOP.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Psychology, or related human services field
- Experience working with students in a similar program in post- secondary education who are disadvantaged and from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Effective communication skills and proficiency in technology (Microsoft Office)
- Ability to travel to multiple work sites, work flexible schedule including evenings and Saturday
- Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and for duration of appointment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree
- Community college experience
- Knowledge of college admissions and student financial aid
