The Santa Clarita Community College District/College of the Canyons is seeking a full-time Student Services Specialist III (Case Management) (Basic Needs Center- BaNC) in the Basic Needs Center.Salary placement will be on Range 20 of Classified Represented Salary Schedule B. Initial salary step placement for new employees is customarily at step 1, 2, or 3 ($4,817.00 / $5,109.00/ $5,391.00 per month) of this 20-step salary range.Probationary period for new Classified employees is six months. Work year is 12 calendar months. The normal workweek for this position is 40 hours. Paid holiday, discretionary, and sick time are provided. Ten vacation days accrue during the first year of employment. Position Description:
Reporting to and under the general supervision of the Director of Student Resources and Basic Needs, the Student Services Specialist III (Case Management) (Basic Needs Center- BaNC) provides a collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation, care coordination, evaluation, and advocacy for options and services to meet a student’s needs through communication and available resources to promote self-sufficiency and remove barriers to their education, as well as take initiative and lead efforts to develop and maintain healthy relationships with local community partners and referral sources for students assessing support at the BaNC. Performs other related duties assigned by supervisor. This position will primarily be at the Valencia campus and requires some schedule flexibility for coverage at the Canyon Country campus, extended hours and special events.Example of Duties

  • Understands, interprets and applies college and state regulations, mandates, rules, and operational procedures.
  • Supports other BaNC staff who provide assistance to students accessing services at the BaNC.
  • Provides direct service to students. Follows up with appropriate linkage to community services and resources, engages in community outreach, consults with team members, and provides referrals as needed.
  • Provides targeted case management services, including assessing for student’s case management needs. Conducts phone screenings and facilitates intakes when needed.
  • Applies knowledge of modern office practices and equipment including use of computers for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, record management, and filing systems; performs computer-input tasks relative to the operation of the department.
  • Performs data input for all program phases; including information that may be of a privileged or sensitive nature. Performs other computer-input tasks relative to the operation of the department.
  • Serves as a clerical support and directs office correspondence as appropriate; answers and redirects inquiries.
  • Conducts and serves as an outreach liaison to resources on and off campus, to coordinate additional support to our underserved student populations.
  • Maintains a tracking system for student information, outcomes, and contact monitoring.
  • Travels to and attends community events and meetings to gather information/resources for students and connect with local providers. Attends off-site and weekend resource fairs and similar events as assigned.
  • Accompanies students to various offices/meetings to assist/facilitate them in getting their needs met.
  • Assists with securing and distributing donations to students.
  • In collaboration with the Student Health and Wellness Center, participate in efforts to build and maintain partnerships with agencies in the local community to facilitate the delivery of long-term behavioral health, social service, and medical care to support students in need; develop and maintain a database of referral sources.
  • Provides support, training, information, and referral services. Facilitates groups and/or education classes as assigned.
  • Facilitates access to housing resources and other economic supports.
  • Attends all required meetings within the department and with campus partners, including those for case reviews as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated Working Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Qualifications and Minimum Requirements

    Minimum Requirements:

    Experience:
    Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience in community colleges, universities, high schools, community agencies, or similar work in a medical office, clinic or hospital setting.

    Education:
    Education equivalent to an Associate’s degree (60 semester units) is required. Two years direct experience in addition to that identified above may be substituted for one year (30 semester units) of college.

    Desirable Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher.

    Physical Characteristics:Position requires sitting and viewing a computer monitor for extended periods of time plus frequent periods of standing and walking, which may include climbing staircases; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and related equipment; reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling; handling and working with various materials and objects; frequently exerting 10-20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects; hearing and speaking to communicate and provide information to others; vision to read printed material and computer monitor; may be exposed to occasional contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals; and travel from site-to-site.Further Details
