Job Summary

Perform specialized duties in the field of photography, videography, graphic design, animation, web design, etc. in order to communicate the university's message to a variety of internal and external audiences.

Responsibilities

As a member of the University Marketing and Communications (UMC) team, the Website Specialist reports to the Associate Director of Marketing and Brand Management. This position is responsible for maintaining and updating the university website to assist Valdosta State University in its recruitment and retention goals. The successful candidate is a very collaborative, creative, team player who brings new ideas to the table.

Typical Allocation of Duties:

Design and develop - 50%
Operate cameras, video equipment, and computer hardware and software to develop content for print, video, and web-based media.

Consulting - 15%
Coordinate and consult with internal clients to develop strategies, goals, and timelines. Work with internal clients to develop messaging and other content.

Graphic design - 15%
Perform a variety of graphic design functions in the development of communication materials in assigned media.

Equipment management - 10%
Maintain a variety of software and hardware used in the development and production of multimedia content as assigned. Research and recommend technology upgrades.

Administrative functions - 10%
Complete a variety of reports and maintain files and records.

Supervisor Expectations:
  • Experience performing web content management or development
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS; familiarity with CMS software (e.g. WordPress or Hannon Hill¿s Cascade CMS)
  • Basic understanding of image editing
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and knowledge of cross-browser testing and debugging
  • Excellent written/verbal communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
  • Experience with website analytics (e.g. Google Analytics) and marketing practices including SEO; understanding of online accessibility needs (e.g. WCAG)
  • Update and maintain university websites, ensuring accuracy and brand alignment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve website issues; perform maintenance and cross-browser testing
  • Handle day-to-day requests from the campus community; coordinate and consult with university stakeholders to develop strategies, goals, and timelines
  • Work with the UMC team to develop web designs and get copy approved
  • Assist the Webmaster with campus training as needed
  • Work with the Associate Director of Marketing on SEO compliance; monitor website traffic and performance using analytics tools
  • Perform content analysis to identify and correct broken links, errors, and outdated content; scour webpages to find and correct incomplete content
  • Regularly update webpages for the Online College for Career Advancement
  • Work to solve problems for internal clients
  • Stay updated on web development trends; propose process improvements; engage in professional development
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications

Required Experience
Associate's degree and three (3) years of related experience.

Proposed Salary

$43,985
