Job Description:
The Department of Physics at the University of Florida (UF) seeks a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biophysics Experiment to begin August 16, 2025. Applications are encouraged from highly qualified candidates in all areas of experimental biological physics, including but not limited to active matter and collective behavior, molecular and cellular function, signaling and information processing, neural dynamics and behavior, organismal physiology and development, ecological and evolutionary dynamics, and related topics.
The successful candidate will join a growing theoretical and experimental biophysics group in the Department of Physics, https://www.phys.ufl.edu/wp/index.php/research/biological-physics/. The Department is well equipped with modern laboratory space as well as in-house machine and electronic shops and cryogenic facilities. Micro- and nanofabrication facilities are available at the nearby UF Nanoscale Institute. Excellent opportunities for collaboration with biomedical researchers exist on campus through the six colleges of the UF Health Science Center, the Cancer and Genetics Research Center, the Emerging Pathogens Institute, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the McKnight Brain Institute, the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, and the High B/T Facility of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL).
This position offers the opportunity to interact with the research efforts both within and outside the Department of Physics, including interdisciplinary interactions with the Department of Biology, Microbiology and Cell Science, Biomedical Engineering, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, Florida Museum of Natural History, and College of Medicine. The University has heavily invested in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science initiatives and centers, providing high-performance computational resources including the HiPerGator 3.0 and HiPerGator AI, the largest supercomputer and AI infrastructure in higher education.
UF is the state's oldest, largest, and most comprehensive land grant university with an enrollment of over 50,000 students and was ranked 7th in the country among public universities (US News and World Report 2024 rankings), and 1st among public institutions in the Wall Street Journal 2023 survey. UF is located in Gainesville, a city of approximately 150,000 residents in North-Central Florida, 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, and 67 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, and within a 2-hour drive to large metropolitan areas (Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville). Expected Salary:

Minimum Requirements:
Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in Physics or a closely related field and have strong postdoctoral research experience.
