Position Summary:The Post-doctoral research associate will conduct research on detecting and understanding mechanism of fungicide resistance in Alternaria spp. in brassica, Botrytis spp. and Stemphylium spp. in onion, Colletotrichum spp. and Fusarium spp. in cucurbits. Candidate will utilize techniques not limited to classical mycology, fungicide sensitivity, genomics and bioinformatics. The candidate will also utilize field and greenhouse based assays to test hypotheses. In addition to conducting research the incumbent will work closely with an interdisciplinary team across multiple states to evaluate the cultural practices that reduce fungal disease losses in multiple vegetable crops. The incumbent will take a leadership role in data collection, data analysis, and compiling manuscripts for publication in appropriate journals. The successful candidate will work closely with different key industry stakeholders, and could be involved in supervising undergraduate students. The incumbent will also present results at local and national conferences. Candidate will also assist PI in writing and preparing Federal proposals for submission.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:PhD in plant pathology or plant sciences or a related area.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :- The candidate should have a working understanding and experience in projects related to fungicide resistance and published articles on related subject matter.
- Experience with fungicide sensitivity assay, genomics and bioinformatics.
Light lifting, standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time.
Travel throughout Georgia is an essential part of this position.
