About Us

The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 26 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Department Information

The Georgia Film Academy (GFA) is a professional organization, a unit of the University System of Georgia, that is committed to leading and advancing the entertainment arts industry and its workforce in Georgia. The GFA supports the Georgia Film Consortium (GFC), which is a unique state-wide collaboration of institutions of the University System of Georgia, Technical College System of Georgia and Independent institutions who offer professional courses in film, television, digital entertainment, Esports, and game development.

The GFA promotes rigorous professional training and supports opportunities for film and television production craft internships and placement in creative industries, apprenticeships and jobs in an effort to build a permanent and sustainable industry in the state. On behalf of the USG, TCSG, and their institutions, as well as private higher education institutions in Georgia who choose to use its resources, the GFA is dedicated to the development of both Georgia's workforce and the industry which will utilize it.

Responsibilities
  • Teach Digital Entertainment, Esports & Game Development Courses on a semesterly basis.

    • Manage courses through systematic use of syllabi and online student learning management system (D2L).

    • Keep accurate records of students' class performance, attendance, and grades; evaluate students for consideration for internship program.

    • Submit attendance and grade reporting as required per institutional deadlines.

    • Teach, train, advise and mentor students to help them develop skills necessary to join the digital entertainment industry workforce in Georgia.

  • Handle and complete various administrative responsibilities associated with class management.

  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Attend and participate in the All-Instructor Conference at the start of each semester
Required Qualifications
  • A combination of:
  • Bachelor's degree in a qualifying field and ten or more years widely recognized industry work experience in Live Event Production, Broadcast, Streaming, Esports, Digital Entertainment, New Media, and Game Development.

    • Significant recognized experience (ten or more years) related to course content.

    • Specialized training in course content.

    • Specialized certification in course content.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, PowerPoint, working with laptop and projector-basic knowledge. Familiarity of online learning management systems a plus.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred, but not required:

    • Teaching experience

    • Membership in course content-related guild or trade union

  • Instructors credentials, credits, and work experience must be recognized and respected by industry.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse functions of delivering instruction in higher education:

    • Skill in communication of instruction.

    • Organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records.

    • In depth expertise in at least one of the following crafts or areas: Esports Event Production, Live Production, Live Stream Broadcasting, Game Development

  • Knowledge, understanding and/or experience to train students in the following digital entertainment crafts and concepts:

    • Roles in new media, live production, broadcast and streaming

    • Live event production, broadcast and streaming (basic equipment, roles and procedures)

    • General live event etiquette and procedures (terminology, general safety, call sheets, run-of-show, load-in/load-out, talent management, guest management, stakeholder management, etc.)

    • Live event hosting and casting

    • Gaming and esports terminology

    • Event management processes

    • Game development processes

    • Video content editing (basic equipment and procedures)

    • Deep familiarity with terminology and concepts around developments in new media and digital entertainment (latest gaming hardware platforms, virtual production, VR, AR/XR, game development engines, etc.)
