Job SummaryThe Department of English seeks applicants for a tenure track faculty position beginning August 1, 2025. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate's area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.
The Department of English at Valdosta State University seeks a tenure-track faculty member in British literature and culture 1900-present. While the area of specialization is open, this faculty member will be responsible for teaching the second half of the British literature survey as well as upper level courses in British Modernism and Postmodernism. Further, we are particularly interested in applicants who can help diversify our literature offerings and contribute to the development of an interdisciplinary certificate in social justice studies by bringing in secondary areas such as women/gender in literature, disability in literature, race and empire in literature, or environment and literature.

Department Summary
Teaching a four-course load during the academic year (Fall and Spring semester) in a variety of modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online), maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.
Typical Allocation of Duties
Teaching and scholarship - 80%
Teaches classes and conducts/presents research in the employee's academic discipline.
Service - 20%
Participates in service at the department, college, and university levels.
- Doctorate in English
- Ability to teach upper level courses in British Modernism and Postmodernism
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship
- Secondary areas such as women/gender in literature, disability in literature, race and empire in literature, or environment and literature
- Experience developing and teaching online courses
- A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant's career stage
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting
- A record of mentoring students
