Job Summary

Performs campus grounds and landscaping maintenance and leads other ground maintenance workers in assigned work.

Responsibilities

Typical Allocation of Duties:

Lead grounds maintenance workers - 25%
Leads, guides, and/or trains grounds maintenance workers in applicable procedures and techniques; ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; monitors workplace safety and environmental practices.

Chemical application - 25%
Applies fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides.

Operate equipment - 25%
Operate groundskeeping and maintenance equipment such as blowers, lawn mower, trimmer, and pressure washers.

Provide care - 25%
Provide care for campus grounds, including mowing lawns, watering flowers and shrubbery, trimming trees and bushes, installing plants, etc.

Supervisor Expectations
  • Preference will be given to individuals who have a two year horticulture degree, and/or courses in horticulture.
  • Preference will be give to individuals who have experience working in a green house or similar environment.
  • Experience driving a reel mower and maintaining sports turf is a part of this position.
  • Successful candidate should show in their resume that they have three years working in a landscape position and have either been a team leader, or have the potential to be a team leader.
  • This position works with VSU Event Services to provide plants from the greenhouse to various events.The successful candidate should be able to show in their resume that they are able to successfully work with customers and provide timely and professional customer service.
Required Qualifications

Required Experience
High school diploma and three (3) year of related work experience. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Proposed Salary

$32,870
