Position Overview
The College of Social Work and the Ohio State regional campuses offering Social Work programming rely on Contract Field Coordinators in both Field Liaison and Field Co-instruction capacities to provide instruction for many courses in the undergraduate and MSW programs. Contract Field Coordinators from our communities bring extensive knowledge and expertise to the classroom based on their educational backgrounds and practice experience. Their efforts enrich the curriculum for our students and they provide a perspective that keeps our curriculum anchored in current issues and practices from the field.

Performance Objectives
The major function of this position is to develop, maintain and monitor the agreed upon number student field placements to ensure successful completion of this portion of their education.
Be available to students and field instructors for support, problem-solving, and facilitation of learning activities to enhance the student’s educational experience.
Communicate to the Director and Assistant Director any problem situations in the field which may interfere with the student’s successful completion of field education.
Field Liaison Expectations:
- A minimum of two site visits during the academic year per student; more frequently if needed
- Quarterly contact with both the student and the field instructor
- Documentation of contact and any issues that arise with student
- Sending out an email introduction to students at the beginning of the quarter, as necessary
- Communication with the field office regarding any issues with students that need further consultation
- Attendance at performance reviews of any liaison student you are assigned to when the issue is field-related
- Attendance at field meetings as requested
Field Co-Instructor Expectations:
- Bi-weekly in-person supervision with the student (virtual for students placed over 60 miles away). One of these bi-weekly meetings must occur with the agency task instructor as well. Supervision will center on the learning agreement, competencies, and practice behaviors from the social work perspective. On the other weeks, email or phone contact with the student is required.
- Guiding the development of the learning agreement with the student and task instructor.
- Documentation of the learning agreement, visits, and evaluation in the field database (IPT).
- Communication with the Director of Field Education regarding student progress, at least twice each semester.
- Problem resolution with student and task instructor, when appropriate, with the Director of Field Education.
- Attending an orientation with field coordinators to learn about the process of co-instruction.
- Attendance at any meetings regarding student performance (performance review, etc.).
- In addition, you will be reimbursed for mileage during your field visits. All mileage must be submitted within 90 days of the first occurrence. Please try to submit this monthly.
These are part-time Contract Field Coordinator positions expected to begin in either Spring 2025 or Autumn 2025.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required: Masters of Social Work (MSW) and 2 years of post degree experience
Prior experience working in the College of Social Work as a Contract Field Coordinators in either a Field Liaison or a Field Co-instruction capacity, or as both a Field Liaison and a Field Co-instruction required.
Desired: Prior experience working in higher education or supervising students in a field placement setting

The College of Social Work readily collaborates with the social work community to improve and resolve an extensive array of contemporary social problems — making it an integral and valuable resource to the state of Ohio and the nation. Through its Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW), Master of Social Work (MSW), and PhD programs, the college enables students to experience and explore the knowledge, values and skills required for professional social work practice and research.
Department Information
Field Education is the primary method of practice and teaching in accredited social work programs, blending values, knowledge and skills with practice in micro, mezzo and macro settings. Field education prepares students for the “profession’s fundamental ways of thinking, performing, and acting with integrity” (Wayne, et al. 2010). In 2023-2024, the field education team matched and supported over 1000 students in field across the country and internationally. Students were placed in 465 agencies and provided 453,600 field hours to individuals, families and communities. The Field Education Team affiliated with 225 agencies in 2023-24, and we currently work with 1600+ community agencies across the country and across the globe.
Field team members are cross trained to support our students during every step of the field process and to make sure that needs are balanced using a collaborative work environment with a strong focus on teamwork. In addition to our full time team, we have up to 25 contract social work staff that support our field placements each academic year.
