Job Details
Washington State University Spokane (WSU Spokane), one of six campuses of the distinguished Washington State University (WSU) system, seeks a full-time, annual, clinical non-tenure track, 12-month appointment for an innovative leader to serve as the Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program in the College of Nursing. A successful candidate will strategically manage the program, as well as support ongoing development of the faculty in the integration of teaching technology. This is an exceptional opportunity for a person who wants to make a significant difference working collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff within of the College of Nursing across all campuses and WSU Health Sciences, as it continues to create both knowledge and community impact across the state of Washington and beyond. This position is expected to be located primarily in Spokane, but location near one of the other WSU College of Nursing campuses (Tri-Cities, Vancouver or Yakima) may be negotiable.
Summary of Duties:
- Oversees the DNP program on all WSU College of Nursing campuses, including curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation; clinical placements; faculty development, evaluation, and teaching assignments.
- Partners with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in maintaining program accreditation, and regulatory standards; student admission, progression, retention, and graduation.
- Facilitates communication, partnerships, and efficiencies across DNP program tracks.
- Monitors trends in DNP education and practice and provides leadership for DNP program expansion, diversification, and refinement.
- Monitors and promotes continuous quality improvement/internal standards of all DNP tracks.
- Mentors DNP track coordinators to assure the highest quality education for students.
- Provides leadership in development of DNP accreditation and regulatory reports.
- Develops long- and short-term student admission and retention strategies in collaboration with the Office of Academic Affairs.
- Works with the administrative team in promoting state-wide and national recognition for the DNP program.
- Communicates programmatic needs with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
- Initiates or supports faculty in the preparation and implementation of grants to support educationally-related activities and serves as PI/Co-PI as appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
- Candidates must be an advanced practice registered nurse holding a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or PhD degree.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and the reduction of health disparities.
- Candidates must be certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Adult/Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Must be eligible to hold RN and ARNP unencumbered licenses in Washington.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in progressive leadership and exhibited strength in both scholarship and teaching.
- Meet criteria to be appointed at the rank of Clinical Associate or Clinical Full Professor. This position will not be considered for tenure track or tenured rank. (See additional requirements below)
- Demonstrated experience in developing new and innovative approaches to advanced practice nursing education.
- Demonstrated ability with online coursework and/or technology literacy.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with industry partners and alumni to benefit teaching, scholarship and outreach programs.
- Experience with accreditation and reporting requirements of DNP programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

- Progressive academic leadership in NP programs conferring either a MSN/MN or DNP degree.
- Evidence of clinical scholarship
Additional Required Qualifications to Meet Full Professor Status
- Progressive academic leadership in NP programs conferring either a MSN/MN or DNP degree.
- Evidence of clinical scholarship with national impact.
- Candidates must demonstrate both national and international reputations in their field of study.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Digital education experience, including the use of multiple digital or technology-supported teaching/learning platforms and mechanisms.
- Demonstrated experience managing graduate certificate programs.
- Leading programs that are delivered to students across multiple campuses with necessity to consider regulations and requirements in bordering states.
- Leading DNP programs at a research-intensive, health sciences center.
- Leading DNP programs that prepare advanced practice nurses in specialty tracks other than NPs.
- Leading DNP programs that are embedded in colleges with active faculty practices.
- Knowledge of Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission (NCQAC) standards for ARNP education and practice in the state of Washington.

Annual Salary:
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The annual salary includes the 12-month faculty salary and a stipend for the administrative duties (ADR) of the Director role.
Associate Professor: $104,677.55 + $10,000 - $25,000 (Stipend)
Full Professor: $122,565.32 + $10,000 - $25,000 (Stipend)
*Please note that all faculty positions with administrative roles are fixed term and renewable as outlined in the Faculty Manual.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

This is a full-time, career-track faculty position with a 12-month administrative appointment.
The goal is for this position to begin on or before July 1, 2025, but the start date is negotiable.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced
Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.
Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
