POSITION TITLE: Student Employee, Co-Editor - Blazer
STATUS: Part time
DEPARTMENT: Dean of Students
DIVISION: Student Development
REPORTS TO: Bob Marcink
CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt
MINIMIUM PAY RATE: $15.00 per hour
(Position is FWS Eligible)
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage reporting staff; edit paper; write stories; help with layout.
2. Conduct regular staff meetings.
3. Determine size of paper with Production Manager.
4. Meet all printing deadlines.
5. Provide leadership for all other employees.
6. Coordinate and supervise online version of the newspaper.
7. Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Enrolled in 6 credit hours toward your declared major at JJC.
2. Minimum of 2.0 GPA of above.
3. Must have editing and writing skills.
4. Successful applicants generally have worked for the Blazer or another publication in a supervisory role.
5. Successful applicants have strong writing and editing skills and have demonstrated the ability to lead others in a team environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Normal office physical demands
• Occasional light to medium lifting
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Duties are performed indoors in the usual office environment.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.
