Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement the Division's strategic plan, in collaboration with the Chair, which sets forth clinical, financial, educational and research divisional objectives to support and complement the mission statement of the Department, the UMSM, UMMG and the affiliated Hospitals
Key business objectives include establishing the division as a leader on a local and national level, and continue to acquire the medical, financial, and research resources to achieve this objective
Develop and regulate, with the Department Chair, the Division's operational budget.
Propose and gain acceptance of short-term objectives which complement the strategic plan and ensure the viability of the Division, i.e.; care pathways , medical and logistical plans and procedures.
Promote the mission of UHealth in achieving its role in providing medical education, research, and quality patientcare.
Ensure that the clinical services offered by the Division are of the highest quality, meet community needs, and support the organization
Be accountable for revenue generation and expenditures , cost control, program planning.
Participate in international, national, regional and local activities within the health care industry, which impact the future role of the Divisional Surgical Areas funding environment
Serve in key activities for the Department of Surgery as agreed upon with the Chair of the Department
Participate in establishing education and training policies. Provide leadership role in identifying area for divisional research activities.
Direct and assist faculty in academic progress and assure adequate clinical experience for resident, fellow and student education.
Establish performance criteria , measure and record performance to make recommendations for promotion, tenure and salary for all faculty and staff members of the division
This individual is responsible for clinical care in all aspects of cardiac surgery including pediatric and adult cardiac surgery, cardiothoracic trauma and the ability to participate in surgery for electro physiologic abnormalities as well as working collaboratively with the Heart and Lung Transplantation Teams.
This individual will build private clinics at University of Miami Hospital and Jackson Memorial Hospitals and will participate in clinical care at University of Miami Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and the Miami Veteran's Administration Hospital.
The individual will become an integral part of the minimally invasive cardiac valves programs and the aortic surgery center as well as other growing areas of Cardiac Surgery.
This individual will be involved in resident supervision both at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center and the Miami Veteran 's Administration Hospital. In addition, this position will require teaching of students in both junior and senior elective programs as sponsored by this Division within the students' surgical experience
This individual will also be responsible for pursuing protocols to fund experiments under his/her supervision

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidates will have an excellent academic record and be a recognized leader in heart transplantation and cardiac surgery.
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to build programs and align constituencies are required
Recognized teaching skills and expertise in residency , fellowship and medical student training is required
Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques
Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatments
Effective verbal and written communication skills along with proper bedside manner
Performs in tactful and professional manner.
Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
The Position requires an MD or MD/PhD degree and board certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
The individual must also possess a Florida Medical License and DEA certificate.
Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):
At least 8-10 years of experience post Fellowship, and hold academic rank or equivalent of Associate Professor or Professor
Excellent leadership and communication skills along with the ability to recruit and mentor
