Position Description

NYU Shanghai is currently inviting applications for an Assistant, Associate, or Full professor in Medical Anthropology whose work demonstrates excellence in interdisciplinary research and high-quality classroom instruction. The candidate would join an active group of scholars who are focused on ethnolinguistic studies of cancer care, cultural perspectives on health and illness, ecology, climate justice, and the effects of urban and built environments on human health and develop innovative and exciting collaborations with faculty across the social sciences. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to join a vibrant research community housed in the NYU Shanghai Social Sciences Area and its research centers.

Terms of employment at NYU Shanghai are comparable to NYU New York and other U.S. institutions with respect to research start-up funds and compensation, and they include housing subsidies and educational subsidies for children. Faculty may in certain cases have the opportunity to spend time at NYU New York and other sites of the NYU Global Network, engaging in both research and teaching.

Qualifications

We are especially but not exclusively interested in scholars whose research adopts a global perspective on health, urban ecology, energy, disasters, or climate change. The ability to teach qualitative methods would be an asset. We are open to all geographical foci. Candidates should be comfortable conducting collaborative research in interdisciplinary teams with scholars from diverse and complementary backgrounds. This position is part of a four-line cluster search on the climate-health nexus, broadly construed; the other three positions are in global public health, medical anthropology, and psychology.

Application Instructions

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research, statement of teaching interests, and at least one writing sample via Interfolio. Additionally, those applying at the rank of assistant or associate professor (without tenure) should enter the names and email addresses of at least three referees. Each referee will be contacted to upload a reference letter through Interfolio.

Applications may be received until October 28. To apply, follow this link: http://apply.interfolio.com/155496. If you have any questions, please email the NYU Shanghai NY Office of Faculty Recruitment: shanghai.faculty.recruitment@nyu.edu.
