Job Title:Sign Language Interpreter

Position Summary:Position Summary:
This position facilitates communication with Deaf and hard of hearing students and visitors on campus. The Sign Language Interpreter interprets for academic courses (both credit and Continuing Education), campus activities/events, and miscellaneous assignments for the College, using varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace. This position requires a flexible schedule and may include both day and evening hours or weekend hours. Hours will vary each semester depending on the College’s interpreting needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
1. Perform high level, complex, and technical interpreting for Deaf and hard of hearing individuals using American Sign Language or another sign language-based system such as Signed English, Transliteration, or Visual Gestural Communication.2. Interpret, face-to-face or remotely, for various classes, meetings, tutoring sessions, emergency situations, advising appointments, student/faculty conferences, and intake service meetings, as needed.3. Provide assigned interpreting services as needed during College closures when classes or meetings continue online.4. Review and read textbooks or related course or meeting materials to aid in preparation.5. Interpret, face-to-face or remotely, for co-curricular activities and other College-sponsored events, both on and off campus.6. Support various enrollment, retention, and completion initiatives of the College.7. Perform other duties as assigned.
1. Bachelor’s Degree2. Interpreting certification granted by a national certifying board (RID, NAD, BEI)3. Two (2) years of professional interpreting experience4. Membership with Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and experience implementing the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct
Desired Qualifications:1. Completion of a post-secondary degree program in Interpreter Preparation/Training2. Interpreting experience at the post-secondary education level3. Three (3) years of professional interpreting experience
Work Schedule:Between the hours of 8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday
Other hours may include evenings and weekends, including Saturdays and Sundays
