Description:

The office of Student Counseling Services at Hofstra University is seeking an energetic and motivated Postdoctoral Fellow, sharing in our passion for college student mental health to join our cohesive team. Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Counseling Services, the Postdoctoral fellowship offers an exciting opportunity for early-career professionals to gain extensive clinical experience, supervised hours toward licensure, to participate in outreach and collaboration, as well as contributing to the development of innovative counseling services within a diverse, thriving university environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs intakes, consultations, and conducts individual and group counseling for undergraduate, graduate students, law, and medical students.
  • Participates in risk assessment, crisis intervention and management.
  • Collaborates with other counseling center staff and members of the Hofstra University community to develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Facilitates workshops and support groups on various mental health topics.
  • Participates in the training and supervision of graduate student interns and practicum students.
  • Provides feedback and support to trainees to enhance their clinical skills.
  • Participates in weekly team meetings/supervision.
  • Provides didactics on topics related to special interests.
  • In collaboration with our Campus Wellness Educator, develops and implements outreach programs to promote mental health awareness and resources on campus.
  • Collaborates with campus departments and student organizations to support student well-being.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of clinical work in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Contributes to the development of Student Counseling Services policies and procedures.
  • Engages in staff meetings, case consultations, and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborates and consults with other on and off-campus resources and providers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

This is a fixed-term position with a duration of one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology or a related field required.
  • Completion of an APA-accreditation or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing mental health programming to both student and faculty/staff/parent groups preferred.
