          Assistant/Associate/Full Professor Tenure System

          Position Summary

          The Department of Statistics and Probability at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks candidates to fill a tenure-track faculty position in probability at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level to begin in August 2025. Expertise areas of interest include, but are not limited to, high-dimensional probability, random matrix theory, random graphs, stochastic analysis, and stochastic processes. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated research interests or expertise in the development of new theory/method either directly or with clear implications for applications. The successful candidate will develop and sustain a strong research program, provide high-quality education at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and engage in professional and institutional service.

          Founded in 1955, the Department of Statistics and Probability (https://stt.natsci.msu.edu/) has a long and proud tradition of excellence in fundamental research, as well as maintaining a collaborative and vibrant community of faculty engaging in applied and methodological research. The department prides itself on having leading groups in both statistics and probability.           Required Degree

          Doctorate -Statistics, probability, mathematics, computer science, or a related field is required

          Minimum Requirements

          Applicants for the Assistant Professor level are expected to show evidence of productivity and potential for independent research, while Associate/Full Professor applicants should demonstrate leading a successful research program with independent funding. Applicants are also required to demonstrate commitments to teaching and mentorship of students, and to building an equitable and diverse scholarly and instructional environment.

          Required Application Materials

          Complete applications must include:

          1. a cover letter (1 page) that frames the application in the context of this job advertisement and addresses the candidate’s qualification.
          2. a curriculum vitae with education background, academic appointments, professional experience, funded grants, publications, teaching and mentoring experience, and service roles.
          3. a research statement (2-6 pages) describing past research accomplishments and future plans that frame the applicant’s ability to conduct independent research.
          4. a teaching statement (2-3 pages) describing the applicant’s experience in instruction and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students.
          5. three or four reference letters, with at least one reference letter addressing the applicant’s teaching ability.
