The purpose of this position is to administer and develop the Yawkey Nonprofit Internship Program, which provides funding to undergraduate students to support their participation in unpaid internships at nonprofit organizations. As a member of the Center for Career Development (CCD) team, the Program Manager reports to the Associate Director of Operations and is responsible for the day-to-day activities as well as the long-term strategy that guides the reach and impact of the Yawkey Nonprofit Internship Program. The Program Manager will serve as the CCD's liaison to the Yawkey Foundation, exercise leadership for program development, employer engagement, and relationship-building with partners across campus and externally, in collaboration with the CCD team. Essential Functions: Plan, organize and implement all phases of application process for students, including campus wide publicity and outreach, information sessions, individual feedback sessions, application acceptance, selection committee activities, awarding of stipends, and onboarding of selected students. Monitor student success and well-being in year-round internships, checking in on student progress through email, phone, and in-person discussions. Nurture effective relationships with employers to ensure strong, educational internship experiences for students. Collect, analyze, and present qualitative as well as quantitative data and produce a comprehensive annual report for the Yawkey Foundation. Highlight key data findings to campus partners to further the campus discourse on internships and funding opportunities. Lead efforts to streamline processes and procedures relating to the database and on-line tools used for the program. Develop a program manual and calendar to clarify the overlapping application and internship cohort cycles throughout the year. Manage the program budget to ensure funds are disbursed and utilized effectively in support of objectives set forth in the Yawkey Nonprofit Internship Program endowment at Boston University. Engage in benchmarking to ensure student awards are in keeping with best practices, update projections for future cohort capacity and critically analyze plans for program expansion. Participate in on-campus and off-campus conversations around internships, remaining current on best practices in the field of experiential learning. Represent the Yawkey Program and the CCD at special events and to designated departments, organizations, and groups. Engage in professional development opportunities, including participation in office-sponsored, local, regional, and/or national associations, and/or contributing to the profession through presenting, publishing, or serving on committees.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in human services, social sciences, or other relevant fields, master's degree preferred, with at least 3-5 years of experience in career services, student affairs, education administration, or similar field.
- Program management experience including budgeting, workshop design and delivery, coaching of individual students, timely organization of student information, and ability to coordinate award decision-making.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to correspond with accuracy and sensitivity with regard to student awards, develop written materials, guidelines, and policies.
- Ability to collect, analyze and report on client and program data to inform decision making, and write annual reports and other updates for program constituents.
- Cultural competency, commitment to inclusion, equity and engagement of all students, including students from marginalized communities.
- Highly collaborative, able to conduct outreach and develop relationships with diverse constituents including students, faculty, staff, alumni and employers.
- Ability and eagerness to learn and utilize computer applications, systems, AI, and social media.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed to support CCD activities.
This is a hybrid position, eligible for two days of remote work per week throughout the year.
