Job Description Summary
This individual will be the point of contact for parents, students and Dobbins High School Leadership. As this project will continue for 4 months there will be continuity throughout the academic year. They will coordinate the focus groups of parents and work with Dobbins leadership for willing parents to participate. They will also be able to answer basic questions about the recommended vaccine(s) and direct all to appropriate resources specific for each vaccine.

Duties/Responsibilities:
The Patient Navigator (PN) will facilitate focus groups and pass information to the Patient Coordinator. During the town hall sessions, the PN will monitor questions in the chat and introduce them into the conversation when appropriate. They will also generate questions during the town hall to stimulate a discussion. PN will summarize the transcripts obtained from the recording of each of the town hall sessions (e.g., parents' beliefs of the safety and efficacy of each vaccine, concerns with vaccinating their child, and information needs specific to each vaccine). Parents will reach out to PN to After town hall sessions are concluded. PN will work with staff at the Center for Health Equity (ASHE) to schedule appointments after-school for students to receive the vaccine.
PN will also coordinate group vaccination sessions if requested by school and work with patient coordinator to manage.
PN will obtain consent from parents for vaccination and provide VIS on each, answer basic
questions and direct others to clinical staff at ASHE.
PN will search PHL Vax, electronic health systems for patient's immunization record and obtain from parents including the child's allergic or adverse reaction history, status of series vaccines (meningitis and HPV), and COVID-19 and Influenza vaccine status. If the patient has already received these vaccines, the information will be collected and recorded as well.
PN will facilitate all tasks to ensure that students, parents, and high school leadership have a point person to assist with students obtaining their recommended vaccines.
Qualifications:
The Patient Navigator will ideally have experience with the following:
- Doing grassroots work in communities of color.
- Be comfortable working with families and children.
- Health related experience e.g. medical office, scheduling, received patient calls, familiar with electronic health records.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office is also important for this position.
