Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Marketing and Communications Assistant.

About the Role

The Marketing and Communications Assistant helps support the strengthening of the university’s brand and message both internally and externally to all key stakeholders. This role ensures the timely collection and reporting of relevant data to support the executive director and supports general office operations. The assistant reports to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications and helps other team members as needed.

Specific duties include the following:

  • Assist in coordinating the management, production, and distribution of digital assets including email blasts, social media, and website updates
  • Maintain and update public calendar of events on website
  • Update faculty/staff online directory
  • Deploy significant proofreading responsibilities to ensure consistency and adherence to established guidelines and standards for digital and print materials
  • Support graphic design and other marcomm project needs through use of third-party services
  • Direct support and coordination between Institutional Advancement office and external designers for biannual Class Letters magazine issues, including proofreading and deadline reminders
  • Support varying budget needs for office including submitting check requests, writing expense reports, negotiating charges to or with other departments, tracking the budget, and other related needs as they arise
  • Coordinate routine annual student press releases (e.g., graduation) to hometown newspapers through third-party service
  • Organize and archive a wide range of marketing materials for future reference

Position Qualifications

Successful applicants must have the following qualifications and experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a similar professional or executive assistant role
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Understanding of social media platforms
  • Experience interacting with executive leadership
  • Abilities to self-start, proactively problem-solve, and maintain a solution-oriented mindset
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work, adhering to critical project timelines
  • Abilities to work in a fast-paced environment with flexibility with changing priorities and assignments; meet tight deadlines; initiate, prioritize, and manage multiple projects; and work well independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities
  • Abilities to handle a high degree of confidential and sensitive information and exercise discretion, sound judgment, and solid decision-making
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evening and weekend hours

Preferred candidates will have the following:

  • Proofing and editorial experience
  • Content management system experience
  • Coursework and/or experience in communications, marketing communications, writing, copywriting, or related area
  • Experience with graphic design, use of Canva, and/or use of the Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop)
