The Department of History ((http://www.LN.edu.hk/history/) invites applications for a Professor in any area of specialty within the discipline of history. The Department has existing strength in the studies of Chinese history, Hong Kong history, Japanese history, Pacific history, Southeast Asian history, British history, digital history, as well as various subfields including media, gender, animal, and environmental studies. Candidates whose research and teaching interests that either build upon or expand beyond our existing clusters, working on any region and period, are all welcome to apply.
The appointee is also expected to assume the role of the Head of the History Department upon his /her appointment, for at least one 3-year term. In this capacity, the appointee will manage and lead the department, and take on leadership roles within the university at large.
General Requirements
The appointee is expected to an internationally prominent scholar in his/her field of specialization.
More specifically, he/she should possess (i) an excellent track record of scholarly publications in internationally leading peer-reviewed journals and with major scholarly presses, (ii) a successful grant records, (iii) broad experience in teaching and course development, and (iv) substantive administrative and institution-building experience.
Appointment
The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.
Appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointments with possibility of consideration for substantiation. Appointment with substantiation will be considered for the highly qualified candidate.
