Job Details
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Rochester seeks applications for a tenure-track position in the area of audio and music engineering to start on July 1, 2025, or on a mutually agreed date thereafter. Applicants must hold a doctorate in ECE or a related field by the time their faculty appointment begins. Applicants are expected to excel in research and teaching in technical areas with a focus on audio, music and speech, including but not limited to signal processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, electroacoustics, acoustics, augmented and virtual reality, robotics and humancomputer interaction. Applicants will teach in the Audio and Music Engineering (AME) program in the ECE department and must demonstrate ability or potential for teaching excellence at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
The AME program and the ECE department offer a unique environment for interdisciplinary research and teaching at the intersection of engineering, science, and audio and musical arts. Together with the University's world-renowned Eastman School of Music, the AME program currently is leading the development of the new transdisciplinary Rochester Music and Sound Institute. The ECE department is also deeply engaged in the development of an Augmented and Virtual Reality Institute. The University of Rochester is home to a broad portfolio of sound-related research, including acoustics, auditory neuroscience, audiology, linguistics, speech communication, audio signal processing, audio machine learning, music theory and composition, and music cognition.
Applicants will find rich opportunities for collaborative research with people outside ECE, including the Eastman School of Music, the Goergen Institute for Data Science, and schools and departments in education and health sciences.

Organization
The University of Rochester (located in Rochester, N.Y.) is one of the nation's leading private universities. One of the most collegiate in character among members of the Association of American Universities, Rochester has a personal scale that creates exceptional opportunities for interdisciplinary study and close work with faculty. The University consistently ranks among the top colleges and universities nationwide in federally financed science, engineering, medical, and other research.
The University of Rochester envisions itself as a community that welcomes, encourages, and supports individuals who desire to contribute to and benefit from the institution’s missions of teaching, research, patient care, performance, and community service. In a pluralistic culture, that community includes faculty, students, and staff who represent important differences. Members of the University’s community come from different geographical areas, represent differences in ethnicities, religious beliefs, values, and points of view; they may be physically different, have different intellectual interests, or have different abilities. The University not only welcomes such differences in the members of its community but, in fulfilling its own missions and in preparing the leaders of tomorrow’s world who will necessarily be operating in an equally wide-ranging environment, it actively seeks to recruit and include them in all aspects of the institution’s operations.
The University of Rochester is an institution devoted to teaching and learning, and producing new knowledge. We do these at world-class levels. The challenges facing us as we work to be more inclusive and provide a welcoming environment will respond to our skills as teachers and learners. In the context of our commitment to being more inclusive and diverse, we can apply these skills to the continuing work of transforming our environment in ways that enable greater participation, enhance human dignity, eliminate prejudice and discrimination, and improve the quality of life for everyone.
