The Institutional Services Assistant is responsible for cleaning of areas in and around office buildings, classrooms, lecture halls, conference rooms, auditoriums, dining areas, building common areas, and other areas as required.

The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to multi-task and work effectively with others while promoting a positive organizational culture by embodying the institutional values of community, diversity, innovation, integrity, student-centeredness and trust.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Removes trash from waste baskets, dumps trash, sanitizes and re-lines trash receptacles daily, or as needed, and operates trash compactors.

Wipes furniture, such as desktops, tables, and other surfaces.

Cleans walls, windows, window sills, stairways, and entry ways, as needed.

Sweeps, mops, and buffs floors, vacuums floors daily, and shampoos carpets, cleans baseboards, dusts and/or wipes clean furniture, desk tops, table tops, cabinets, and other surfaces, such as ceiling fans, black/white boards, appliances, and fixtures.

Strips, waxes, and buffs floors, as needed or scheduled. Cleans bathroom fixtures and stocks restrooms with soap, toilet tissue, and paper towels.

Cleans areas requiring special cleaning methods, by using specific cleansers, sterilizing equipment, and/or disposing of contaminated wastes.

Assists in set-up of events and cleaning after events.

Performs other duties as assigned.

1976 - Arkansas State University-Newport (ASUN) founded as White River Vocational Technical School.

1992 - ASUN merged with Arkansas State University-Beebe to become ASU Beebe/Newport. 

2000 - Arkansas Board of Higher Education approved ASUN to be its own, stand-alone campus.

2001 - ASUN hired its first Chancellor, Dr. Larry Williams.

2002 - Gift received from Arkansas Steel and Associates of $250,000 to endow cultural programs.

2002 - ASUN received initial national accreditation by Higher Learning Commission.

2003 - ASUN enrollment exceeds 1,000 students.

2004 - Gift received from Walton Family Foundation in the amount of $1 million, in honor of Lindley and Kaneaster Hodges Jr.

2004 - Ground broke on a Student Community Center.

2004 - The high voltage lineman technology program was created from a partnership between ASUN and the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas.

2005 - Named by Community College Week magazine as one of the top ten fastest-growing public two-year colleges.

2006 - Ten-year accreditation granted by Higher Learning Commission of North Central Accreditation.

2006 - First fully online degree program offered - Associate of Arts in Business.

2007 - ASUN assumed operational oversight for the technical centers in both Jonesboro and Marked Tree.

2009 - ASUN enrollment exceeds 2,000 students.

2012 - ASUN hosts "First Decade Celebration" in Newport, Marked Tree and Jonesboro.

2012 - $1 million gift received from Fowler Family in support of Hospitality Services program.

2013 - Dr. Sandra Massey named ASUN's second Chancellor.

2014 - ASUN becomes fifth largest community college in Arkansas in headcount enrollment.

2015 - 2500 STRONG - In Fall 2015 beat it's all-time enrollment record with 2,533 students.
