Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:30 PM On occasion, employee may be required to perform duties after hours (evenings and weekends) due to emergency situations or planned work. This position will also have a on-call rotation schedule.

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on-the-job training. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary:

This is skilled technical work at a journeyman level involving the operation, maintenance, repair, and alteration of the campus Electric High Voltage Distribution System as a member of a lineman team. The Team’s mission includes 24 hour response to campus electrical outages to restore power as quickly as possible.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

  • Knowledge of and the ability to apply the principles, methods, and equipment used in the installation, repair, and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical systems.
  • Knowledge and the ability to apply the safety methods, practices, and techniques required in electrical distribution systems work.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions and to work from blueprints, sketches, and diagrams.
  • Ability to understand and apply standard trade practices in performing work

Physical Demands:

  • Manual laboring work in adverse weather conditions (both hot and cold temperatures).
  • Work from a ladder or bucket truck.
  • Lift 75 lbs. consistently throughout work shift, extensive climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, and squatting, and working with hands above the shoulders.
  • Driving as needed to perform job related tasks.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Performs High Voltage Lineman work:

  • Inspects, installs, maintains, and repairs high voltage, primary, and secondary underground and overhead cable.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs loop feed switches, substation high voltage equipment and appurtenances, and building transformers.
  • Sets poles, riggings, pulls, and makes splices and interconnects high voltage and secondary cable.
  • Operates bucket and line trucks and performs related work as needed.
