Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Associate Vice President of Human Resources organizes, plans and directs the major and complex programs within the Office of Human Resources and serves as Chief Human Resources administrator responsible for the overall provisions of human resources services, policies and programs for the University’s multiple campus locations. Policies, practices and actions developed affect university-wide programs. The Associate Vice President also participates in the development of university and/or division-wide policies. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead HR programs: recruitment, staffing, compensation, benefits, employee well-being, performance management, training, payroll and labor relations.
  • Develop and implement strategic HR policies and goals.
  • Develop and implement self-service HR capabilities.
  • Create a 3-5 year strategic HR plan.
  • Assess and improve HR functions in collaboration with the Office of Accreditation and Assessment.
  • Advise on HR strategies to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Manage HR staff, performance standards and personnel actions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, labor union guidelines and maintain relations with regulatory bodies.
  • Oversee the HR budget, compensation programs and negotiation with local unions.
  • Conduct conflict mediation workshops and foster a learning environment through training.
  • Prepare reports and participate in policy development and planning.
  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders and external agencies.
  • Handle sensitive information confidentially and represent the organization in various forums.
 

Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in human resources is required. Master’s degree in Human Resources, Management, Business or a related field and at least ten years of progressively responsible professional experience in human resources in higher education is preferred.  Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in HRIS software (preferably Workday) and Microsoft Office Suite.
