The Senior Staff Scientist takes a lead role in designing and performing experiments to investigate the mechanisms of neurologic disease in rodent models and in stem cell models. The Senior Staff Scientist applies extensive scientific and management methodologies specific to the laboratory with scientific rigor, advancing research efforts and minimizing research development risks with regard to quality, timelines, and funding. The Senior Staff Scientist will use state of the art technologies involved in molecular neuroscience, in vivo clinical neuroscience, electrophysiology, tissue dissection, primary tissue culture, advanced microscopy, biochemistry and molecular biology, or some subset of these methods. In addition, the Senior Staff Scientist will contribute to scientific publications by writing and editing articles, preparing quality figures and analyzing data.
The Senior Staff Scientist will also provide technical training, guidance and project support to research assistants, grad students, postdocs and other lab personnel.
This is fixed term position with a current end date of one year from the date of hire, which may be extended based upon available funding.
Job Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Required: Master's degree (PhD preferred) in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or neuroscience or related field and 5 years related research experience
Experiences in laboratory management, supervision, and training and/or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred: Research Staff supervisory experience

Outstanding problem-solving skills, ability to implement solutions
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to present complex data in clear presentations
Proficiency with computers and essential software programs (e.g. MS office, Google Suite, structural biology software etc.)
Ability to collect and analyze data
Ability to work independently and, in a team
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a diverse group of people, with vastly different skills and training
Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community
