Description:Hofstra University’s Department of Drama and Dance is seeking directors for our Mainstage productions. Each year, Hofstra Drama produces six plays, including one musical and plays that are part of our long-standing Shakespeare Festival. Hofstra’s directors are expected to provide mentorship and guidance to our students and foster an inclusive environment that supports their artistic growth. Mainstage directors collaborate with designers, both faculty and students. Directors are expected to attend design meetings, auditions, callbacks, casting meetings, production meetings, rehearsals, tech week, dress rehearsals and opening night.Our facilities include the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, a spacious proscenium theater seating over 1,100, and the 200-seat Joan & Donald Schaeffer Black Box Theater. Notably, we have the most historically accurate reconstruction of The Globe stage in North America. Hofstra has earned recognition as one of the “9 Great New York Acting Schools and Universities” by Backstage.We hold our faculty to the highest standards, emphasizing individual mentoring for student success in the classroom, on stage, and in their professional endeavors. We prioritize maintaining excellent production values on our stages to serve as learning laboratories. Our commitment to high-quality creative scholarship, diversity in our classrooms and on our stages, and fostering positive and collegial collaboration underscores our mission.We are in search of directors who share our dedication to education, particularly at the undergraduate level. Our directors play a pivotal role in providing mentorship and guidance to our students while fostering an inclusive environment that nurtures their artistic growth.
Qualifications:- BA in Theatre/Drama.
- Minimum 8 years professional directing experience.
- Minimum of 2 years teaching undergraduates.
- Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment.
- MFA in either Acting or Directing
- Minimum 5 years professional and/or undergraduate directing.
