Established in 1977, the radiologic technology program at Cypress College is a leader in providing high-quality education and training to a diverse population of students with the entry-level skills needed to become competent and confident radiographers. Upon completion of all program requirements, students may be eligible to take the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

The radiologic technology program uses a mixed approach to prepare students to become skilled and compassionate radiographers who demonstrate personal and professional growth as part of a dynamic health care team. The program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and recognized by the California Department of Public Health – Radiologic Health Branch (RHB).

The college is acknowledged for many of its allied health programs, demonstrating Cypress’ commitment to providing affordable yet highly relevant workforce training. The radiologic technology program is a California Community College Strong Workforce Program Bronze Star Recipient. Bronze Stars are granted when a program attains outcomes in one metric of these three: Either a substantial increase in earnings, the attainment of a living wage, and/or a job closely matched with the field of study.

Job Description:

Teach college-level courses in radiologic technology to a diverse student population including, but not limited to, patient care, introduction to radiologic technology, radiographic positioning, special procedures, radiobiology and health physics, and healthcare law and ethics.

Acquire and maintain education and skills necessary for competency to teach any course in radiologic technology.

Teach assigned lecture and lab courses in the radiology program in a manner consistent with the department’s standards, and with the content cited in the approved course outline and plan of instruction.

Teach, supervise and evaluate students in theory.

Perform professional tasks related to the areas of assignment, particularly in student advisement, curriculum design and evaluation, program review and other affairs of the department and division.

Remain current in the subject matter areas and in the techniques of effective instruction through recent clinical experience, professional development, and application of technology to education.

Participate in curriculum development and serve on division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities.

Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties.

Work cooperatively with staff and students.

Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.

Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer and digital applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.

Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.

Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the disabilities and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of students.

Evening and/or Saturday assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in any discipline AND two years of professional experience OR
Associate degree in any discipline AND six years of professional experience OR
Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.

Possess current and valid American Registry of Radiologic Technologist in Radiography (ARRT)® license.

Possess a current and valid unlimited Certified Radiologic Technologist license (CRT) from the California Department of Public Health.

Possess a current and valid Fluoroscopic Radiologic Technologist license from the California Department of Public Health.

Desirable Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in any subject area.

Posses a current and valid ARRT® certification in Radiography.

Posses a current California CRT in Radiologic Technology.
Teaching experience, preferably at the community college level.

Experience in curriculum development, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and academic advising.

Experience using computers and technology in radiography education.

Knowledge of current innovative teaching methods that encourage student engagement and learning.

Experience working in a team-teaching environment.

Demonstrated leadership experience and/or participation in community or professional organizations.

Commitment to examine, reflect, and modify instructional, relational, and classroom practices in order to effectively engage and support disproportionately impacted student populations with the goal of closing equity gaps.
