Muskegon Community College
Muskegon Community College is a center for lifelong learning that helps people attain their educational goals by offering programs that respond to individual, community, and global needs. MCC is an associate degree-granting institution of higher education and an applied technology leader for high-tech, hands-on training.
With nearly a 100-year history of academic excellence, MCC is a public community college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. With robust student success support, free tutoring, 18 athletic teams, events, clubs, and activities, MCC has an annual, full-time equated student enrollment of approximately 2,300 and an unduplicated headcount of 5,100.
Most recently, Muskegon Community College outranked all other colleges in Michigan for the rate of students who received federal financial aid and then transferred to continue their education at a four-year institution. The college’s transfer-out rate was the highest in Michigan, 7 percentage points above the state average, and outpaced the average transfer rate across the nation. MCC is nationally recognized for its liberal arts and occupational programs.
The College has an annual operating budget (general fund) of $44 million and employs about 210 regular full and part-time staff and many adjunct faculty and student assistants. The College also offers 56 Associate degree programs and 29 certificate programs.
The main campus is located on a 111-acre campus in Muskegon which includes the Hendrik Meijer Library & Information Technology Center, Bartels-Rode Gymnasium, Frauenthal Foundation Fine Arts Center (including the Overbrook Theater and Art Gallery), Stevenson Center for Higher Education, the Science Center, the Health and Wellness Center, and the Art & Music Center.
Muskegon Community College also operates the Sturrus Technology Center and Fab Lab in downtown Muskegon and extension centers in Ottawa and Newaygo Counties.
Living in Muskegon County
Muskegon County residents enjoy 26 miles of sugar-sand beaches along Lake Michigan’s shoreline, as well as one of America’s only luge tracks at the Winter Sports Complex and the regionally popular Michigan’s Adventure Amusement & Water Park. An outdoor recreation hub with three state parks and swimming, fishing and boating on its many lakes and rivers, the Muskegon area offers dynamic downtown and beachfront restaurant and entertainment venues. The Muskegon Farmer’s Market is the second largest in Michigan. Cruise ships dock in Muskegon, while a high-speed ferry connects the city to Milwaukee. Notable local museums range from rare art collections to an actual World War II submarine and a U.S. Navy ship used during D-Day.
Salary Range: Not to exceed $150,000.

General Description:
The College seeks a new provost/chief student services officer who is comfortable being both strategic and hands-on. Successful leadership at MCC requires a commitment to the College’s mission, vision, values, participation in the academic, athletic, and artistic life of the campus, and interaction with the community. Understanding of, and respect for, the concept and process of shared governance in academia, integrity in actions, and clear, consistent communication with all constituencies also are critical to success. This person will have a passion for higher education, academic leadership and student success, with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Education
▪ The successful candidate must possess a master’s degree from an accredited college or university; doctorate is preferred.
Experience
▪ Demonstrated ability to provide academic and related leadership to engage the college community in planning, assessment, and building a vibrant future.
▪ Five or more years of collegiate teaching experience and/or student services experience (preferred).
▪ Five or more years of progressively responsible supervisory and management experience in a community college or university with a diverse student body
▪ Experienced, creative administrator with demonstrated leadership skills needed to foster the continuing academic progress and vitality of the College
▪ Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
▪ Prior experience with collective bargaining in a college environment (preferred)
▪ Proven record of partnership development (w/private, public, philanthropic entities)
▪ Possess systems thinking ability and project management skills
▪ Understanding of change management and enterprise leadership skills
Provost/Chief Student Affairs Officer
The next provost/chief student services officer of Muskegon Community College will be a:
·key member of the Executive Leadership Team and President’s Cabinet
·should be a passionate, innovative and creative academic leader, student success champion dedicated to the community college mission, and will make a long-term commitment to the region.
Essential Function:
1.Provide strategic direction and vision for academic programs and initiatives, while promoting a culture of excellence in teaching and learning, and student success.
2.Ensure programs are current and relevant for college-wide curriculum, guided pathways, strategic initiatives, and student services, support, and success.
3.Model, build and foster an environment of innovation, learning, integrity, excellence, collaboration, trust, and kindness.
4.Work closely with the President and other key leaders to provide overall internal executive leadership to, and support for, the faculty, staff, and their systems of support in Academic and Student Services.
5.Oversee, as an executive budget officer, the administration of the overall budget, and collaborate with the Deans to establish budget priorities for the responsible allocation of resources for academic affairs, student services including instruction, academic support, athletics, and institutional research.
6.Lead college efforts to promote and sustain a rigorous, compassionate, and learning-centered environment that supports student success in both credit and non-credit areas through collaborative decision making and strategic planning.
7.Collaborates and coordinates with the Workforce Development in integrating emerging credentials and skill-based models with traditional academic offerings.
8.Ensures effective partnerships with the community, regional businesses, educational institutions, and k-12 school districts to meet the local workforce and education needs.
9. Excellent communicator with the ability to build relationships and operate under a system of transparency and shared governance.
10.Working effectively in a collective bargaining environment supported by a working knowledge of unions and applicable collective bargaining acts.
11.Create an inclusive environment and ensure recruitment and retention of students and faculty/staff.
