Job Details
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Berry College invites applications for a Lecturer of mathematics to begin in August 2025. This position will focus on teaching Elementary Statistics, a key course taken by students from across the college community, and will coordinate mathematics placement and support using ALEKS PPL. Successful candidates will be especially interested in engaging students from a variety of disciplines.
The department is dedicated to innovative pedagogy through active learning methods and mentoring students from a wide range of backgrounds. The candidate should share our department's commitment to student engagement inside and outside the classroom and will demonstrate aptitude and enthusiasm for student-centered teaching, consistent with research-based pedagogies, in a residential college environment. Beyond high-quality teaching, the successful candidate should also be an active participant in the campus community and interested in mentoring a diverse array of students consistent with the college's commitment to a culture of belonging. In support of these endeavors, the candidate will also be supported by the college in applying for Project NExT or other professional development programs.
Primary duties of this position include teaching courses that serve a broad cross-section of the campus community as required courses of majors or as part of Foundations (general education) offerings. Most of the courses taught would be at the 100 and 200 level. The lecturer will have reassigned time from teaching for the work related to ALEKS PPL (Placement, Preparation, and Learning) and in-semester workshops and coordinating student workers for the department.
Requirements:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in mathematics or a closely related field. Candidates with a Master's degree in mathematics will be considered if they demonstrate exceptional prior teaching experience at the college or university level.

ENVIRONMENT

HISTORY
Berry was founded in 1902 by Martha Berry (1865-1942) as a school for enterprising rural boys when few public schools existed in Georgia. A girls' school was added in 1909. Berry became one of the nation's most successful educational experiments, combining academic study, student work and interdenominational Christian religious emphasis. Berry has an excellent record of sound growth. A junior college was established in 1926 and a four-year college in 1930; graduate programs were added in 1972.
