Essential Job Duties:The Design Lab for K-12 Education at NC State University College of Design is hiring a temporary, part time, weekend workshop instructors to teach Saturday workshops, with an Industrial Design or Media Arts, Design & Technology disciplinary focus, to middle school and high school aged students. Weekend Workshops will be held over the course of the 2024 Fall and 2025 Spring semesters.
Job duties include:
- Attending planning meetings with Design Lab staff and program facilitators as needed.
- Planning & Developing, and Implementing Workshops that:
- Introduce students to design thinking and the design process through challenge-based activities that address the experience of environments, objects, and communication.
- Engage students in the critical evaluation of the designed world.
- Guide students in identifying real-world problems that they can help solve through design.
- Integrate content and skills from a variety of school subject areas in the solution of design challenges to demonstrate the interdisciplinary nature of problem solving in design.
- Guide students through a design review.
- If applicable, acquaint students with design precedents (environments, objects, and communication) and how design addresses the physical, cognitive, social/cultural, and/or technological demands of context.
- If applicable, acculturate students to the studio environment and its collaborative and evaluative practices.

Minimum Experience/Education:- Applicants must have 1-2 years experience teaching or working with high school and middle school aged students
- Graduate of an NC State College of Design Graduate Program

- Strong attention to detail
- A high degree of initiative and aptitude to work collaboratively as well as independently
- Ability to take and follow direction, while also having a creative eye for improvements
- Ability and willingness to be flexible and adapt to work changes
- Experience and demonstrated success planning and implementing design projects
- Strong classroom management skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with photo documentation (of projects and events)
- Interest in design education for K-12 students
