Description:

The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication at Hofstra University invites applicants for an adjunct faculty position in the Department of Journalism, Media Studies and Public Relations to teach journalism courses, primarily in areas associated with digital media.

The preferred candidate for adjunct assistant professor, journalism, will have:

  • Professional experience in journalism or a related field
  • Teaching in higher education
  • Availability to teach daytime courses

Teacher-practitioners who are knowledgeable about best practices and current digital tools for journalism and whose background includes professional experience in journalism are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree and teaching experience is preferred.
  • Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity and inclusivity in an educational environment.
  • Candidates must be available to begin teaching in the spring 2025 semester.
  • Candidates should be capable of teaching how to tell stories with photos, video, audio, and data, and how to edit media with industry-standard software.
  • Candidates should be adept at leveraging social media for journalistic ends.
  • Candidates should have an understanding of the ethical, economic, and technological challenges facing the changing media landscape and demonstrate innovative approaches to addressing them in an undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
  • Candidates must be committed to reflecting diversity and inclusion in their syllabi and working with a diverse student population, faculty, and staff.
