Unit Mission Statement:

The Mathematics Department at William & Mary allows students to design a major based on their own interests and career goals and prepares students for post-baccalaureate employment and for further study of mathematical sciences and related disciplines. There are four concentrations within the major: Standard Concentration; Applied Mathematics Concentration; Statistics Concentration; and Pre-College Mathematics Teaching Concentration. Study options include applied and pure mathematics, operations research, and statistics. Students may also pursue a mathematics minor; and design elective programs needed for careers in actuarial science and industrial mathematics, for interdisciplinary work in fields such as physical sciences, biological sciences, computer science, data science, economics, business, and social sciences, or for graduate studies.

Position Summary:

The Department of Mathematics at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Pure Mathematics. Appointment will begin August 10, 2025. We are interested in individuals with research and teaching expertise in Geometry, Topology, and/or Analysis, but exceptional candidates from other areas of Mathematics will be considered.

Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The successful applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant research program that inspires a highly motivated undergraduate student body. Successful applicants should also possess the skills needed both to mentor undergraduate research students and to teach various courses in the math curriculum, including lecture and seminar-style courses (such as freshman seminars and topics courses). The teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2025).

Preferred Qualifications:

Evidence of ability to attract external research funding. Postdoctoral research experience.
