The Student Health Center is an acute care, outpatient facility with 4 physicians, 2 nurse practitioners, an in-house lab, and a pharmacy. The clinic provides primary care medicine to William & Mary students. Clinic operating hours are 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday.

Position Summary:

The Staff Physician is responsible for providing direct medical care and health education to the student population. On an average day, Physicians can expect to see between 10-20 patients. Most visits are scheduled but overbooks do occur. The Health Center is responsible for the medical care of the university community during outbreaks of medical illness. During such an outbreak, clinical expectations could increase significantly. Physicians are expected to be active participants in the Health Center accreditation efforts, as well as be involved in peer review.Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide clinical supervision for nursing and mid-level providers within the health service.
  • Provide clinical services to a diverse population of students,
  • Participate in Health Center meetings/committees.
  • Share medical expertise with the campus community through outreach with faculty, staff and students.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must meet the Board of Medicine’s requirement of 60 hours of Continuing Medical Education every two years and remain certified in their primary care/medical specialty to remain on staff.
  • This is a restricted position, subject to the continued availability of funding.
  • During the summer months (May-August), providers work on a rotating schedule and must submit annual leave hours when not working.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • License to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Completion of U.S. accredited residency program and Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine.
  • Primary care experience (typically three or more years.)
  • CPR and DEA certifications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in ambulatory care, GYN, mental health assessment, and sports medicine.
