Job Details

The Associate Provost for Student Success and Undergraduate Education (APSSUE) at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) promotes academic excellence and student success. They develop and implement programs to enhance student engagement, retention and graduation rates, and advise the Provost, Deans, and Faculty on undergraduate education issues.

Key responsibilities include:

Program Administration (20%): Oversee Academic Affairs units related to undergraduate education, provide leadership on undergraduate educational policy and administrative oversight of general education programs, and advise/consult with Deans and college-level committees.

Student Success Initiatives (20%): Lead efforts to enhance student retention, academic achievement and graduation, oversee academic support services, and collaborate with stakeholders to address barriers to student success. May pursue opportunities for external support.

Undergraduate Program Development (20%): Oversee the development and enhancement of undergraduate programs, promote interdisciplinary initiatives, and oversee new undergraduate program requests, curricular changes, and relevant academic policies.

Strategic Planning (10%): Develop strategic plans to enhance student success, strengthen undergraduate programming and oversee ongoing assessment of programs.

Data Analysis and Reporting (10%): Use data analytics to support student success initiatives, prepare reports for stakeholders, and oversee key components of institutional accreditation.

Collaboration and Outreach (10%): Collaborate with university stakeholders and external partners to enhance undergraduate programs and student outcomes. Advocate for excellence in undergraduate education.

Professional Development and Leadership (10%): Provide leadership and professional development opportunities for staff and faculty involved in student success initiatives and undergraduate programs, maintain expertise on trends in undergraduate education, and represent the Office of Undergraduate Education on committees and the VCAA/Provost in various meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

A PhD or equivalent terminal academic degree from an accredited university.

A record of excellence in teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate students.

A record of high-quality scholarship.

A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible academic leadership experience in higher education administration, with a focus on student success, academic affairs, or undergraduate programs.

Experience in strategic planning, program development, and assessment in a higher education setting.

Experience with policy development and evaluation.

Demonstrated experience in undergraduate curriculum development and assessment.

Demonstrated experience using data effectively to make informed decisions.

Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education and fostering a welcoming university community.

Experience working with accreditation standards and compliance requirements.

Note: Position involves extended periods of computer use and delivery of presentations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience successfully developing and administering unit/program budgets.

Experience with institutional accreditation processes (e.g., Higher Learning Commission (HLC) or other regional accrediting organization).
