Job Details

The Director of Academic Resources and Business Operations (DARBO) at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) is a key leadership role within the Office of the Provost, responsible for overseeing the efficient management and use of academic resources, as well as managing various business operations within the division of Academic Affairs. This position requires a strategic mindset, financial acumen, and strong operational expertise to ensure the division's objectives are met effectively and efficiently. The DARBO reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs/Provost and is responsible for managing the budget and business process activities for the Office of the Provost and ensures that operations are consistent with university, State, and Federal policies and guidelines. Preferred start date: late Fall 2024.

Responsibilities:

  • Budget Oversight: Oversee/Lead the budgeting process for the division, including budget development, monitoring, and reporting, ensuring adherence to financial guidelines and policies. Manage the budget activities of the Office of the Provost. 
  • Business Operations: Assist with management of day-to-day business operations within the Office of the Provost. Identify opportunities for process improvement within the division, implementing best practices and innovative solutions as appropriate. 
  • Strategic Resource Planning and Management: Develop and implement strategies to optimize the allocation and efficient use of academic resources, including faculty, staff, facilities, and funding, to enhance academic programs, research initiatives, and student support services within the division. 
  • Financial/Data Analysis and Reporting: Conduct financial/data analysis and prepare reports on academic resource utilization, budgetary trends, and operational performance to inform decision-making, strategic planning and assessment of the financial health of academic programs and initiatives. 
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and institutional policies in all aspects of academic resource management, financial administration, and business operations, mitigating risks and addressing issues as needed. 
  • Training and Support: Provide support and guidance to deans and academic affairs leadership on matters related to budget planning and resource allocation, staffing and workload planning. Develop and provide trainings and give presentations as appropriate. 
  • Policy Development: Develop and implement policies and procedures related to academic resource management, business operations, and financial administration within the division. 
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Build and maintain effective partnerships with academic and administrative units, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and enhance the effectiveness of academic resource management and business operations. 
  • Leadership and Supervision: Serve as a representative of the Office of the Provost and provide leadership, direction, and supervision to staff as appropriate, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
