Portland Community College’s Art, Humanities, Communication and Design (AHCD) Academic and Career Pathway seeks a full-time Instructional Support Technician II (IST II) in Art. This position will support the Art Program at the Rock Creek Campus.

The ART IST II position may support any of the following Art areas: Digital Photography, Basic Design, Sculpture, Printmaking, Painting, Drawing, Art Gallery

The Pathway welcomes students from diverse backgrounds and abilities to study and develop their skills in preparation for a variety of careers and/or transfer to four-year institutions. The IST works with faculty, administrative staff, casual staff, student workers and Pathway leadership to enhance our students’ learning experience by ensuring classes and facilities are well supported at the Rock Creek campus. They liaise with a variety of stakeholders to perform a full range of support duties. ISTs work independently, responding to a variety of situations. Successful ISTs have the ability to make sound decisions regarding whether they are able to provide appropriate support or seek assistance from faculty, the Faculty Department Chair, administrative assistant or the Arts and Design Program Dean. The scope of this may include developing studio schedules, onboarding casual workers, and providing ongoing studio support. Remote work and the use of technology to perform duties off site may be needed.

Candidate ProfileThese qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.
Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.

  • Knowledge of art studio media and safety, (oily rags, what gets to go down sink, etc)
  • Proficient with maintenance and minor repairs to studio equipment such as easels, drawing horses, work tables, wood shop power tools, lighting equipment, tripods, matt cutter and other non camera photographic equipment etc.
  • Experience/ knowledge of handling and installation of artwork
  • Coordinate with the PCC web team and Art department to post art department social media platforms and web page images of student artwork and links to upcoming events.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed
  • Ability to travel between campuses on a day to day basis, IST will not be asked to travel from campus to campus on the same day
  • Knowledge of working with power tools and equipment (drills, saws, etc).
  • Ability to provide support and mentorship for students during class times and open lab time
  • Experience in studio art, and/or technical courses such as woodshop, welding, or fabrication
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion
Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years of post-secondary education in a specific technical discipline appropriate to the instructional support.
  • One year of experience supporting laboratory activities in the technical area is required; experience performing the duties described above may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must have proven communications skills adequate to assist students in understanding the work they are to perform.
Position Grade16Starting Salary ExpectationsThe first two steps of the range are: $47,034 to $48,440 per year. Higher salary placement may be available based on qualifications, experience and internal equity.

Partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions (full-time employees only).Paid Leave: (Pro-rated by FTE for Part-Time Employees)- Starts at 8 hours of vacation leave per month (additional vacation hours with years of service)- 8 hours of sick leave per month- 24 hours of additional personal leave days per year - 12 Paid holidays

Working Conditions and Physical RequirementsWork pressure, disturbances of workflow and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis. Changes in the performance environment require occasional upgrading of skills. Working conditions may be somewhat disagreeable requiring occasional exposure to safety hazards, noise and temperature extremes. Some learned physical skills are required. Physical effort such as frequent standing, walking and lifting; guiding and/or carrying of lightweight materials or equipment; occasional periods of sustained effort.
