Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an OPS Lab Assistant – Boca Raton, Florida.

The OPS Lab Assistant will be working for a research laboratory that focuses on vascular biology and chemotherapy toxicity. The OPS Lab Assistant will perform all tasks under the supervision of the principal investigator (PI).

Summary of Responsibilities Include:

  • Performs cell culture experiments and functional assays.
  • Assists with mouse handling, including injections and tissue dissection, assistance with colony management and genotyping when needed.
  • Prepares protein samples from cultured cells and tissues, for analysis by immunostaining, electrophoresis, western blot, or ELISA.
  • Extracts RNA from cells and tissues for gene expression analysis.
  • Processes samples for pathology analysis.
  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
  • Assist in writing and designing experimental procedures.
  • Generates and prepares data for lab meetings, grants, and publications.
  • Assists with the training of students, interns, and volunteers.
  • Maintains lab inventory, place orders, ship and receive materials.
  • Sterilizes materials and prepares the lab for inspections.
  • Refills cell storage tanks with liquid nitrogen.
  • Communicates with the PI any work-related issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two (2) years of appropriate experience required.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

Bachelor's degree in biological sciences and previous laboratory and animal handling experience is preferred.

Strong analytical and communication (both verbal and written) skills.

Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.

Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Graphic, Imaging, and Statistics software).

Ability to work well in a team environment. Excellent interpersonal skills when dealing with other lab members, including students.

Demonstrate a track record of high enthusiasm and motivation, significant independence, creative thinking, and knowledge.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Salary:

$20.00 - $25.00 per hour.

Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
This position eligible for flex scheduling under the discretion of the supervisor.
