The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (C&EE), in the Samueli School of Engineering at UCLA, invites applications for two (2) tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, in the area of new mobility systems in transportation engineering. Applicants for the position must have a demonstrated record of excellence or show exceptional promise for high-quality research, teaching, professional development and the ability to build an extramurally funded research program.

We are particularly interested in the research areas of human-centered mobility systems and human-vehicle-infrastructure connectivity. Areas of interest may include, but not limited to: human-centered machine intelligence, human factors, evolving behavior and interactions between people, technologies, infrastructure, built environment and land use, resilient freight transportation and logistics, digital world modeling, infrastructure monitoring, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) systems, equitable and trustworthy technologies, and vehicle-highway automation.

Our transportation engineering program, emphasizing technology, resilience, equity, and sustainability in new mobility, is rapidly expanding. We seek candidates to enhance the strategic priorities of our program, the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, and the Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. This recruitment initiative is integral to the growth of our new mobility program with our strategic focus on connectivity, sustainability, automation, and security. Ideal candidates are expected to have a strong interdisciplinary research background and complement the current research activities ongoing in the department and the university. In addition, applicants must have a demonstrated record of interest in, and commitment to, the mentorship of and/or outreach to students from underrepresented and underserved populations. The successful candidate will be expected to advance their active mentoring activities and participate in programs that provide research and professional development opportunities for our diverse student body (such as our Center for Excellence in Engineering and Diversity, our Women in Engineering program, and our student organizations listed at https://samueli.ucla.edu/equity-diversity-and-inclusion/).

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, where this position will be housed, currently hosts 26 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 4 affiliated and joint tenured/tenure-track faculty, and 7 adjunct faculty with diverse expertise. The department and Samueli Engineering are committed to continuously developing a strong teaching and research presence in new mobility and transportation engineering.

UCLA offers competitive salary and attractive benefits packages. All applicants should hold a PhD at the time of appointment. Candidates must hold an earned Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields. The expected start date is July 1, 2025.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. The salary range for this position is $115,000-$130,000. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
