Position Summary:Florida Atlantic University is seeking an FAU graduate student or post-master's graduate for the position of Counselor in Residence - Boca Raton, FL.
The mission of the FAU Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is to provide Florida Atlantic students with timely and effective mental health services that allow them to improve and maintain their mental well-being and therefore to meet their educational, personal, emotional, and psychological goals. The CIR provides drop-in support, overnight mental health support, respond to mental health crises as part of a coordinated response team, present mental health related programs to residential students, and will work with HRE. Depending on qualifications, candidates may have the opportunity to maintain a limited caseload at CAPS. The CIR will be provided with an on-campus apartment in a residential hall.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Provides office hours of approximately 10-15 hours weekly to the on-campus student population with a mix of afternoon and evening hours. They will use office hours for drop-in support and provide resources for residential students and resident assistants. When appropriate, the CIR will refer students to CAPS clinicians.
Provide at least four educational programs and workshops to enhance wellness, well-being, resilience and healthy habits per semester.
Provide after-hours support for mental health and emotional concerns of the residential population with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) After- Hours Crisis Service. The CIR will utilize an on-call cell phone and is expected to remain within the borders outlined in on-call procedures.
Assist with the educational curriculum of HRE including offering ongoing informational groups within the residence halls on topics such as decision-making, self-management, effective communication, and interpersonal relationships.
Act as a resource to students and staff and offer input and recommendations for programming needs and programming assistance as requested by the University community. Provide materials and suggestions to resident assistants and residential students.
Complete necessary administrative duties including reports for HRE and CAPS, and documentation in accordance with CAPS policies and practices.
Assist with training sessions for HRE paraprofessional and professional staff pertaining to all aspects of mental health and CAPS services.
Attend and assist with planning and presenting educational programming to enable Residential Education professional and resident assistant staff to identify and refer distressed and disruptive students; assist with Behind Closed Doors training programs.
Implement the policies and procedures outlined by the Department of Housing and Residential Education (HRE) and FAU CAPS.
The CIR will attend weekly meetings with CAPS, which may include individual supervision, training and case consultation.
CIR will also meet bi-weekly with the Associate Director of Residential Education and attend monthly Residential Education staff meetings.
CIR will meet and collaborate as needed with HRE staff, FAUPD and other campus partners to support students.

Minimum Qualifications:Must be currently enrolled or graduated from a graduate-level program from an accredited institution in counseling, social work or mental health-related field.• Must have completed 1 year of graduate level coursework in the field of mental health

Temporary positions are not established positions and are paid from OPS funds. Temporary positions are usually not eligible for benefits and retirement; however, they may be eligible for health insurance coverage depending on the average hours worked per week.
