Nursing Skills Lab and Simulation Director
Description: Under the supervision of the Chair of the Nursing Department, the Nursing Skills Lab and Simulation Director will be responsible for the daily operation of the Skills and Simulation Lab. The Director will oversee the preparation, maintenance, inventory and operation of all skills lab and simulation equipment/supplies and collaborates with faculty and students to design, plan, implement, and schedule skills and simulation activities. Pending final administrative approval, the position will start in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025.
This is a full-time, 11-month, on-campus/in-person/non-remote appointment.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized nursing skills and simulation laboratory environment including maintaining lab and simulation equipment, ensuring equipment is properly handled ordering lab and simulation supplies, and making recommendations for new equipment and supplies.
- Orient new staff to the skills and simulation lab; ensure proper staffing of skills and simulation events.
- Act as a role model for students and staff by reinforcing professionalism including dress code, treating confidential and sensitive information appropriately, and supervising student workers, and lab staff while demonstrating the ability to work with diverse groups.
- Ability to develop, design, implement and evaluate simulation-based educational initiatives that meet the INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice ™
- Work with nursing faculty to develop simulation scenarios using various levels of fidelity mannequins.
- Provide comprehensive strategic and operational planning for the nursing lab and simulation area and work with the Department Chair to identify opportunities for innovation and funding.
- Stay current with clinical skills and simulation to align with the curriculum and program outcomes based on evidence-based practice.
- Provides faculty development in educational practices using simulation
- Develops and enforces policies and procedures to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient use of the simulation lab space, equipment, and supplies
- Lead the program in meeting Healthcare simulation standards of best practice (INACSL) and through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) accreditation process.
- Participate in significant campus activities including Welcome Weekend, True Blue Weekend, and Commencement Weekend
- Expected to comply with all applicable College, Federal, State, local and associational laws, rules and regulations
- As a representative of the College, expected to comport oneself in a professional manner at all times, both on and off campus
- Other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current non-encumbered license or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of New York.
- 3 years current experience either in direct patient care or Nursing Skills/Simulation Lab with knowledge of nursing skills and simulation.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate both written and orally with faculty and students.
- Current knowledge of simulation education in health care professions
- Possess self-initiative and strategic thinking skills to improve the program and monitor the progress of work projects
- Ability to work well alone and with faculty and students from different disciplines and educational levels with strong analytical, interpretive, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to collaborate with community partners
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivation, creativity, and high standards of professional performance
- Must be able to be able to build and unify teams effectively
- Certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE)

Salary Range: $74,000-$79,000
