POSITION TITLE: Director of TRIO Student Support Services

DEPARTMENT: Student Care & Retention (SSE)

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Student Care and Retention

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of TRIO Student Support Services will oversee the design, implementation, coordination, and assessment of the SSS program at Dominican. Dominican’s TRIO-grant-funded SSS program, which will focus on students who are first generation, low income, and/or have a disability, has three objectives: to improve the persistence rate, academic standing rate, and graduation rate of the students whom the program serves. This program will include curricular developments/academic interventions, holistic support, and case management. The Director of SSS will collaborate with others in the Division of Student Success and Engagement to promote the academic success of SSS-eligible students.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise TRIO Student Support Services Assistant Director
  • Stay abreast of U.S. Department of Education policies and grant terms/conditions to ensure the program operates in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations; oversee the preparation and monitoring of fiscal and technical reports; review and approve all expenditures related to the program
  • Comply with Title V, Title IV of the Higher Education Act, and District policies and regulations per the federal SSS and state funded programs
  • Design and submit annual program budget to U.S. Department of Education Program Specialist for approval
  • Recruit program participants, conduct needs assessments and intake meetings
  • Convene SSS staff for regular meetings pertaining to workflow, caseloads, and program development
  • Lead SSS staff in annual assessment of academic success skill development services (delivery methods, student usage rates, tools used in targeted interventions with students who are academically at risk, emerging resources, and successful practices at other institutions)   
  • Develop methods to evaluate and monitor effectiveness of the program through posttests and the collection, compilation, and verification of project data; prepares progress reports related to program activities for the Department of Education and the university
  • Develop and implement process for efficient and effective responses to faculty submitted academic alerts for SSS students
  • Serve as a member of the Student Care Network; conduct outreach to at-risk SSS students identified through Academic Alert system
  • Develop and implement academic skill-building curriculum through design and teaching of first-year seminar section(s) for SSS students
  • Monitor D/fail/withdraw (DFW) rate of SSS students

 

Required Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form to multiple audiences 
  • Ability to build working relationships with students, faculty and staff 
  • Ability to manage time-sensitive processes 
  • Ability to work effectively with limited supervision.

 

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, social work or related field
  • Possess a clear understanding and personal commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Working knowledge of legal regulations such as FERPA and other implications of law within higher education
  • Advanced PC knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Internet applications, database management, report analyses and measurement tools. 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with student retention and case management system strongly preferred
  • Minimum three years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Minimum four years of experience in academic advising, guidance and/or student success programs at the post-secondary level preferred

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to spend long durations of the workday sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

 

Salary and FLSA Status

  • Salary: $65,000 - $68,000 annually
  • FLSA Status: Exempt 37.5 hours
