Associate Director, Office of Public Interest and Community Service - Georgetown University Law Center

Requirements

Created in 1996, the Office of Public Interest and Community Service (OPICS) is the hub of the public interest community at Georgetown, and seeks to foster in all law students a commitment to service that will continue through their legal careers. In addition to coordinating many of the Law Center's public interest programs, OPICS is the primary career office for students interested in exploring public interest and government legal opportunities. The office also administers the Law Center's extensive pro bono program, which encourages and facilitates pro bono legal service by students and other members of the Law Center community.

The Associate Director, OPICS advises students and alumni on public interest and government careers. It is an integral member of the OPICS advising team working to identify and prep students for summer and postgraduate employment. This position also oversees the academic component of the Blume Scholars program and a variety of Blume-related community programming. Reporting to the Assistant Dean in OPICS and closely working with the Dean, the Summer and Postgrad advising teams, and the Assistant Director of Public Sector Employer and Alumni Outreach, duties include but are not limited to:
  • Conduct one-on-one counseling, reviewing resumes and other application materials.
  • Conduct career-related programming, participating in recruitment programs, employer outreach, and alumni networking activities.
  • Specialize in counseling and outreach in public interest fields as dictated by the needs of the team and the expertise of the incumbent.
  • Oversee areas of potential specialty to include, but not limited to, state and local government agencies, Capitol Hill, and regional markets.
  • Collaborate with the Blume Director and Blume Scholars to develop a curriculum that guides the Blume Scholars in their career leadership development.
  • Identify and coordinate speakers who will participate in the Blume Leaders in Residence Program.
  • Supervise the OPICS Program Manager who assists with the Blume program.
  • Regularly collaborate with OCS career advisers, the Experiential Learning office, ODOS, Office of Academic Affairs, Financial Aid and the Registrar's office.
  • Periodically interact with the Office of General Counsel, working with the Blume faculty advisor and Development team to manage donor relationships.
  • Engage with external constituents, including employers at nonprofits and government agencies to cultivate mentorship and speaking opportunities.


Requirements and Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor
  • 3-10 years practice in public interest and/or government law setting, before or after law school
  • Three years of legal career advising and/or related program development and management experience


Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with and listen to people from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Experience counseling, coaching, or advising individuals, including peers or mentees, in navigating career decisions
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity and cultural sensitivity
  • Comfort navigating, or willingness to learn how to use, programs like MailChimp, LinkedIn, and GSuite

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
