JOB SUMMARY

The UConn-URI Navy STEM Coalition within the National Institute for Undersea Vehicle Technology (NIUVT) at the University of Connecticut seeks qualified applicants for an Educational Program Assistant 2 position within the School of Engineering. The UConn-URI Navy STEM Coalition seeks to establish a long-term STEM pipeline program for naval-related careers in Southeast New England. The program will engage STEM talent K-12 through graduate school in innovative naval-focused activities and hands-on projects through participation from the regional Navy community to provide early and frequent interaction and ultimately, retention of students from this community. Working under the direction of the VII director and the Program Manager of the UConn Navy STEM Education Program, the successful candidate will provide administrative support and program support to help administer the newly funded Advancing Naval Careers Through Higher Education Outreach and Research (ANCHOR) in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) awarded to the University of Connecticut.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the VII and UConn Navy STEM Education director and ANCHOR Program Manager and staff with coordination of the day-to-day operations of the program, including responsibilities for reporting, purchasing, general administrative support, and coordination of assignments.
  • Act as a project coordinator for all summer programs to support the goals and prioritization of projects, which will include oversight of student employees.
  • Contribute to program evaluation in conjunction with faculty for all ANCHOR-VII programming.
  • Assist in the organization of events and outreach opportunities on campus and in the region to promote STEM and collaborative research initiatives.
  • Serve as curator and editor of written and visual content for new and existing websites/newsletters etc., with a primary focus on research and innovation activities, developing content per goals of the overarching effort and initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison/point-of-contact between VII and the Navy STEM Coalition program leaders and staff at the University of Connecticut.
  • Ensure faculty are informed of websites, tools, news, events, programs, etc.
  • Write and/or edit and disseminate informational, promotional, and occasional technical materials to support program activities.
  • Serve as a resource to students, staff, faculty, and others on matters relating to administrative procedures and on some matters relating to program specialty.
  • Review records and data for accuracy, reconcile differences, and work with other staff and university offices to identify errors and make corrections.
  • Compile data and prepare statistical reports used to monitor or assess program activities or project future needs.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with established guidelines and budget limits.
  • Respond to and resolve a variety of program-related questions and issues.
  • Perform related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of related experience.
  2. Superior verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  3. Self-starter with superior organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and follow through.
  4. Ability to synthesize large amounts of information into concise analytical reports.
  5. Experience with event planning and management and/or managing a complex calendar or schedule of activities.
  6. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software.
  7. Demonstrated ability to leverage both interpersonal skills and marketing/information technologies to network with and engage internal and external stakeholders.
  8. Willingness and ability to occasionally work outside of standard hours, in order to accommodate scheduling requirements and programmatic objectives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience with working with companies in the defense industry.
  2. Transactional experience working in a budgeting oversight/fiscal capacity.
  3. Experience working in a research setting or within a university.
  4. Experience working with, for, or writing about, STEM programs or disciplines.
  5. Hands-on experience with project management.
  6. Experience working with external stakeholders to create partnerships.
  7. Experience leading DEI programs.
  8. Experience developing program support materials (both web and print) and graphics as well as experience using social media platforms for outreach and communications.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, end-date position that may be annually renewed based on performance and available funding with an excellent benefits package. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
