Assistant Vice Provost, Student Belonging and Community and Associate Dean of Students

The Johns Hopkins University seeks an experienced, effective, student-centered, strategic and outcomes-oriented leader to serve as the Assistant Vice Provost, Student Belonging and Community and Associate Dean of Students (AVP/ADS). The Assistant Vice Provost and Associate Dean of Students will work intentionally and collaboratively with Student Affairs leadership and colleagues across the university to cultivate an inclusive environment where the diversity of our student body is celebrated, belonging is fostered, relationship and community building is prioritized, and students of all backgrounds and identities thrive.

The AVP/ADS will provide leadership and direction to a range of efforts and activities related to supporting student identities and their intersections, ensuring that JHU students feel supported and valued, and that the diversity of our student body is celebrated. The AVP/ADS will create opportunities to engage students across our Hopkins community in ongoing dialogue that values differences and the unique contributions of others’ talents, backgrounds, customs, experiences and worldviews. The AVP/ADS will work with internal and external stakeholders and partners to enhance and increase educational opportunities that foster a more inclusive educational and community environment for students.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in using data and assessment to leverage evidence-based strategies and practices in their work and be able to demonstrate their experience utilizing and staying abreast of best practices designed to enhance sense of belonging, and inclusion and eliminating barriers to success. They will also be able to demonstrate experience and expertise in developing and executing dialogue programs. Importantly, the AVP/ADS will have significant experience supervising, coaching, mentoring, and developing their team members to positively impact and enhance the student experience.

The AVP/ADS provides key direction and day-to-day supervision for the Office of Student Belonging and Community including Multicultural Affairs, Gender & Sexuality Resources, and Religious & Spiritual Life. They also play an integral role in cultivating community and providing support for international students and students with disabilities in partnership with the Office of International Services and Student Disability Services.

They serve as a key advisor and counsel to the Associate Vice Provost for Student Engagement and Dean of Students, the Vice Provost for Student Affairs, and members of the Student Affairs Cabinet, and University Leaders on student diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) matters, especially related to student engagement, development, thriving, and success.

The new Assistant Vice Provost, Student Belonging and Community and Associate Dean of Students is expected to begin no later than January 2025. For best consideration, please send all nominations and applications to:
