Position Summary:

The Administrative Coordinator is a key member of the Campus Living Thematic Area who supports professional staff as they implement an enhanced living, learning, and transition experience at the university. Desire to work in higher education and make an impact on the student experience is a critical component of the position.

The Administrative Coordinator serves as front-line reception and manager of the Campus Living Center, representing both Residence Life and STEP to various internal and external audiences (i.e. students, families, alumni, faculty, staff and vendors). This position is responsible for front-of-the-house center operations, to include management of the center’s daily operations supervision of student staff, while also supporting the team’s general administrative work within residence life, housing, community development, orientation, and student transition programming. Commitment to high performance and accountability, with the ability to multi-task and work independently and collaboratively while exercising sound judgment and taking an appropriate level of initiative. Additional responsibilities include special event planning, coordination of travel for the thematic area, and records management.

Conditions of Employment:

This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation and the ability to work effectively with internal and external constituencies, while exercising diplomacy and tact in all interactions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to evaluate options and generate solutions.
  • Experience with technology platforms to assist with general office administrative needs (i.e. Cascade, StarRez, Blackboard, ChromeRiver, Constant Contact, group calendars, listservs) with established high degree of computer proficiency in a variety of software applications to include MS Office (specifically, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word and Excel and Acrobat and/or similar programs).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Experience working in higher education, fundraising, or customer service/retail.
  • Experience in meeting coordination or planning.
  • Experience supervising student workers.
  • Working knowledge of Commonwealth of VA State and university policies and procedures.

Advertised Pay Range:

Up to $45,000 commensurate with experience
