Job Description:
Assist the Program Directors and Assistant Program Director in the management and direction of all surgery education programs education within the department. Construct and maintain methods for meeting ACGME training requirements for all accredited residency programs.
Residency and Fellowship Programs - Education and Assessment Responsibilities
Maintain accurate and thorough academic records on all resident trainees, past and present.
In collaboration with the Program Directors and Assistant Director of Education, assist with the monitoring and documentation of resident progress toward meeting their program-specific milestones using New Innovations and other methods of evaluation and assessment.
Preparation and distribution of all requisite materials for semi-annual resident review and meetings of the Clinical Competency Committee
In collaboration with Program Directors and Assistant Director of Education, assist with the development of educational methods necessary to teach core competencies, e.g. maintain regular, didactic conference schedule, and maintain accurate schedule of clinical rotations for all residents.
In collaboration with Program Directors and Assistant Director of Education, construct and monitor methods of assessment of resident proficiency in the core competencies using New Innovations and other effective methods of evaluation.
Assist with the development of core educational curriculum for the residency program.
Assist Program Directors and Assistant Director of Education with the re-design and realignment of assessment methodologies (designing new evaluation tools specific to each faculty member and rotation).
Construct and maintain methods for meeting Departmental residency compliance with ACGME and RRC requirements.
Improve the use of information technology for educational purposes within the department.
Update educational goals and learning objectives annually.
Manage and track all educational fellowship activities for Plastic Surgery Integrated Residency, Plastic Surgery Traditional Program, and Hand Surgery.
Update educational web pages for all training programs
Coordinate resident/fellow conferences and track attendance.
Manage, distribute, and track resident/faculty evaluations and produce accurate reports summarizing resident progress throughout the year (semi-annual resident review) and a final evaluation for all residents completing training and/or leaving the training programs, provides a summarized report of faculty teaching performance as assessed by residents and medical students in time for faculty to meet promotion and tenure deadlines.
Support the development and preparation of education material for use in conferences, simulation and skills labs, journal clubs, and workshops.
Assist residents/fellows with their other training and education needs when appropriate.
Technical Management of Programs including Recruitment:
Knowledge of the ACGME accreditation process and program requirements for subspecialty surgery programs, ability to organize and prepare accurate documentation of program compliance with ACGME defined program requirements, provides assistance in preparing ACGME annual updates, and providing progress reports when necessary.
Manage Residency program Databases (New Innovations, WebADS, NRMP, ERAS, Caselogs, ACGME, AAMC, and all specialty-specific boards).
Assist in the preparation of ACGME self-study and site visits.
Use knowledge of specialty board resources in addition to the American Board of Surgery resources to guide residents in preparing their applications for board certification.
Must be knowledgeable of rules and regulations on house staff leave.
Maintain house staff leave records.
Verify post-graduate training
Effective use of ERAS and other application software programs.
Plan, organize and implement recruitment activities for all sub-specialty training programs in the department.
Correspond with applicants selected to arrange interviews.
Inform applicants not selected for interview of their status.
Put together informational packets for interviewing applicants in compliance in compliance with NRMP standards and policies.
Coordinate and assist with all interview day activities.
Work with the NRMP to ensure all Match lists are submitted in a timely fashion. Communicate with new residents/fellows and support their transition needs.
Administrative
Customer Service - respond to all inquiries via email or phone regarding the residency program
Assist with the processing of appointments for new residents/fellows as needed.
Share in the responsibility of administering all in-training exams in the department.
Assist with the supervision of the student assistant and/or Health Education intern
Approve and proof all correspondence for the Program Directors and Assistant Program.
Assist with the continuing medical education activities of the department including Surgery Morbidity and Mortality Conference.
Process travel and reimbursements for all residency-related travel.
Other duties as assigned including, but not limited to:
Responsible for planning special events for the department which includes, but is not limited to, annual alumni tailgate, new faculty welcome reception, and faculty holiday event.
Expected Salary:
$50,000 to $55,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the field of Graduate Medical Education desired
