Large Animal Veterinary Technician - Part Time (OPS)

Job Description:

As a member of our care staff, working in a unit that is open 24/7, you will assist with and perform medical treatments and procedures under the supervision of senior staff. In addition to strong communication and hands-on skills, this person must be proficient in equine handling and monitoring. Must live close to the vet school and have reliable transportation to arrive within 30 minutes of being called in when scheduled.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Assists in patient medical evaluation and performs patient observations, monitoring, administers medications/treatments and recording in the patient medical record. Collects, prepares, and submits lab samples, captures and inputs fees for materials and services.
  • Assist professional staff in performing critical and intensive care or life sustaining emergency care, diagnostic services, blood collection, and fluid administration as directed. Prepares rations to meet dietary needs of hospitalized patients.
  • Maintains a supply inventory and replenishes stock within the assigned areas and will maintain a clean/sanitary and organized clinical service area.
  • Assists with gathering and recording information, the management of after-hours admissions and discharges, visitor policies and emergency call-ins.
  • Set up, clean and ensure proper storage of equipment.
    Expected shifts are primarily 5pm-7am Monday thru Friday, and additionally, 7am-7pm on weekends and holidays. Expected to also cover staff on leave. Other hours may be required and scheduled for training, filling in alternate shifts, holidays, or on-call duty as needed. Expected number of hours is: 16-20 hrs/week up to 40 hours. Paid training and uniforms provided.

    Expected Salary:

    $15 per hour

    Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have relevant experience with horses to be considered.
  • Must be available for afterhours on-call duty
  • Must live close to the vet school and have reliable transportation to arrive within 30 minutes of being called in when scheduled.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Veterinary Technician or Assistant.
