Facilities Management is an integral element of the Business Affairs team and serves to create, maintain, and continuously improve the William & Mary physical environment to enable excellence in teaching, research, and public service.

Position Summary:

Access Control Technicians provides the following services:

  • Ensure successful operation, maintenance, and installation of the lock hardware used in doors and access control systems including designing, diagnosing, and making repairs to ensure continuous, safe, and efficient operation of all related hardware.
  • Survey, design, and install access control systems on campus.
  • Provide locksmithing services such as core changes and key cutting/issuance.
  • Establish and confirm that filing systems are up to date.
  • Accomplish work orders with guidance from the supervisor.
  • Determine materials and parts required to complete tasks and order parts from the storeroom.
  • Coordinate schedules and appointments with customers.

The applicant selected will be required to complete the following training within 1 year from the hire date:
  • CY101-Schlage Cylinder Servicing
  • MK101-Basic Master Keying
  • LK105 -Introduction to Schlage’s Non-Residential Products
  • KS101 Key Systems Overview
  • Mag Lock-Electric Strike Installation
  • 30E/35E Electronic Security Technician
  • 25E Locksmith Technician

Conditions of Employment:

  • Duties include on-call/standby on a rotating schedule.
  • This position has been designated as essential to the operation of the department and will require reporting to work when the University is officially closed.
  • Incumbents will be required to participate in the Facilities Management on-call program.
  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may require overtime including scheduled and unscheduled, nights and weekends, and or holidays.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s license and two years of driving experience.
  • Certifications to operate software and perform installation of hardware configured to operate with CBORD CS Gold or the ability to obtain within one year from the date of hire.
  • Experience with commercial access control and door hardware installation, programming, and service.
  • Possess networking configuration and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, install, and repair Access control components such as card readers, contacts, electrified door hardware, and access control panels.
  • Ability to inspect, troubleshoot, test, diagnose and repair lock problems (mechanical and electronic)
  • Possesses skills in access control system design/layout.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Products (Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to survey access control systems and recommend upgrades.
  • Experience maintaining electronic key boxes.
  • Experience diagnosing, servicing, and installing door closers and operators.

Advertised Pay Range:

“$37,000 to $44,000 commensurate with experience.

Advertised Pay Range Statement:

All hiring rates are commensurate with relevant experience up to the advertised amount considering internal alignment.
